Looks to me like the guy tried to use too much aileron on the ground and the FBL unit took him for a ride...

The Castle ESC catching fire was just adding insult to injury!

I have a Castle Creations esc 110. Are these esc prone to unprovocable fires?

When the 700e came out, everyone was putting 80HVs in them.  While they work just fine when set up correct, they tend to be right on the thresh-hold.  It's just a guess, but I think he overamped when he hit the ground and it cooked and i'll be he was using the 80HV.

EDIT: Yep. Just read the info on YT. It says he was "testing" the 80HV. Stick with the 120 or better or Kontronik if you have a small gold mine.

Any way that could have been prevented with a different ESC setting?

Yes there sure is. Get rid of the esc and motor and install a YS or OS 91.
