Put my FBL 600n into the ground today. Governor was on, I was in idle up, came out of an inverted hover and experienced what appeared to be a glitch at first. Had a sharp "bump" that was not caused by my inputs. Went to land and all of a sudden a much stronger "bump" and the engine went to idle and my inputs were having no effect. It quickly rolled and fell to the ground from about 100 feet up. The damage was relatively minor though somehow. When I approached it I noticed it had no power. If you bend the switch cable slightly in one spot the power would come back on, move it a little more and the power would go back off.

Is this a common issue and if so is there a better alternative to the 2 in 1?

On the bright side, my 550e is scheduled to be delivered Friday.

I'm not sure about the cable but the switch had some issues at one time. Some good info here: http://www.ronlund.com/rcheli/ARCHIVE_2_IN_ONE.html

Same thing happened to me, I had a glitch that lasted about 1 or 2 seconds to which I lost control in flight but I was extremely lucky and it reconnected I regained control and was able to fly it back and land without issues. After checking it on the bench I discovered an intermittent power issue with the 2 in 1. I pulled it off threw it away and went with a regulator and added a push glow.

If you have to bend over more than once to pickup your Heli it was a bad landing

Helismash, good info. Mine appears to be halfway down the wire though and not in the switch. Looking at it closer it looks like it may have gotten nicked on the CF frame in the area where the short is so I can't really blame this one on the 2 in 1. I have had one do what is described in that link before though.

dos boss, thanks. I had a spare 2 in 1 but if I have any more issues with them I may go that route.

A great option is running 6.6v A123 batteries without a regulator and using a switchglo or pushglo. Plug the battery directly into the receiver to eliminate switches.

I have done this for two years without a hitch and the cost is reasonable.

Tyler makes a great point. As far as my 2 in 1's go. I take them apart, unsolder the switch from the board and solder in a HD servo extension. That lets me plug in a switch (with a jumber) or just use a jumper for the switch. As far as the ribbon cables go, I like to ise some larger fuel tubing, split it and put it around the ribbon cable to help protect it. There are probably better solutions out there but that works for me.
