Has anyone had one of these fail? Other than to be a convenient way to attach the main gear to the main rotor shaft, what does the one-way bearing accomplish? None of my smaller, lesser expensive heli's use a one-way bearing on the main gear...they have a through pin/screw to attach the main gear to the main rotor shaft.

I am asking because I am in the thought process of designing a heli and am gathering (have been for a little while now) info...

Thanks,
Smacka

The one-way allows the motor to stop while allowing the main and tail blades to continue to rotate so you can get it back to Earth safely. Honestly bro, if this simple concept escapes you then you might not be the guy to design a new heli. I love ya fellow RR poster, just saying.

The One way inables autorotation. They are a wear part. Ive worn out 1 in over 300 flights on an L400 and hundreds on my L500

What other helis don't have a one-way bearing? The Trex and 450 and 250 do. The 450 actually has the jesus bolt through the gear that drives the tail and not through the main gear. The head will spin with the tail drive gear while the main gear stays stationary. The 250 has an arrangement more akin to how the Logos have their main shaft gearing set up.

Huh, interesting...so the one-way bearing only engages with a torque load applied, otherwise it free spins...

Okay, I am just mulling over a three piece design for a 450 sized application. Just using my winter time between builds to ponder. I am not speaking of a heli to market...just one to mess around with for my own amusement. Like the guy that was messing with wood one day and fabricated a wooden box and a handle with a triggger. He took apart a transmitter and transfered some parts to the wooden box with a handle trigger...well now it is being refined further and is going to be a transmitter for a one-armed pilot. They are using a fixed wing as the test bed aircraft, for now. I see a heli application down the road.

I am also looking at a motor that, once the throttle is lowered to zero, the motor itself allows for auto-rotation.

The smaller heli's I am speaking of are in the CP class size. I have never owned a T-Rex 450-500, so I cannot speak to their kit...

I do, however own a T-Rex 600...Logo 400 and Logo 600...

That Bullsheet in Mechanical Engineering was a complete waste of coin wasn't it. Again, if we have to tell you what a one-way bearing does as someone that claims to be an engineer then our educational system is shot to hell. Best of luck with your project though I guess. If I were you I'd do a bit of research before you make a fool of yourself in front of prospective funders of your project though. And I'd go back to school and pay attention this time. This is basic stuff yet you have never owned even a basic R/C helicopter and want to engineer a new one. Is it rude to laugh at this point?

Hey, SOMEBODY had to say it right? And I can be that guy.

i'll be that guy too. sorry smacka, if you don't know how a one way bearing works, your an idiot of the highest "degree". 35+ years of engineering experience must have been driving a train, because this is a pretty simple concept. just quit posting on the mikado forum man, i really don't need to see this crap every time i log on. and please don't have your wife post or pm to bail you at this time, she's too nice to be defending your idiocracy.

It has been said in the past that one should hang with folks of higher intelligence in the hopes of it wearing off on others. But with claims like yours and posts like yours some of us have begun to feel that you may be beyond that. When you make wild claims of your intelligence and then start posts like this it makes one wonder what your true intention here is. In that respect, you've made your intentions clear. The RR ignore function doesn't change that. All we can hope is that some day you come around and end up being someone here to HELP and share and not simply a forum for you to toot your own horn.

Best of luck in your posting and engineering future.

Thank you for the personal emails at my home telling me to "Stop posting on YOUR boards".

News flash to RC Scavenger and MMC...these are NOT your boards.

Thank you for your continued harassment...

Being an asshat to fellow members doesn't make you right. It just makes you imature. Something to think about while you re-read this thread and maybe something to think about before you start another one.

No one has suggested you don't post here. Only that you do so with respect to others which you've failed to do throwing your "education" around while asking questions like the one above. Doesn't make you look too intelligent in light of your past claims. By all means, let's all be added to your ignore list so we don't have to see you making a fool of yourself.
