Yesterday I received my VStabi "Blueline" 5.0 Express. Once I got home I wanted to update to 5.1. It appears that I have to purchase 5.0Pro and then upgrade. Is this correct?

I thought you could upgrade for 5.0 express to 5.1 pro directly. If you can't buy the 5.0 pro then the 5.1 pro update will be free.

My understanding is 5.1 is a Pro release not a Express release. So you will need to pay the $45 if you want 5.1 Pro. In other words there is no such thing as 5.1 Express, only 5.1 Pro.

I would upgrade to Pro anyways, you are missing a lot of adjustments that can be made to further tune the Vbar to your liking.

EDIT: Confirmed what I suspected, it's listed right there on the Vstabi web site.

"If you update from a Version before 5.0PRO (4.0 or 5.0Express) you have to buy the PRO Update first via Mikado Shop. The Update itself is the same."

Yes

Upgrade to 5.0 (pay) and then the upgrade to 5.1 is free. You must get the pro vers first. Then just move up from there..

WOW - I thought at that price, the upgrade to from 5.0Express to 5.0Pro or to 5.1 would be free. Why are they sending them with 5.0Express firmware. Maddening to have to pay another $45 Not impressed

Simple, it was a way for them to drop the overall cost to directly compete with it's competitors. The Vbar works perfectly fine with the Express software. However if you want all the tuning options to tweak then pay the extra $45 for the Pro.

I see the Express and raise $45. I paid to update by black VBar from firmware 3. something to V5Pro. The update to 5.1 was included and easily justified. But paying $319 for a brand new unit loaded with 5.0Express and then an additional $45 to update to 5.1 has me a little stoked. The new Futaba is listed at $319!!!.

All Bi%^$hing aside - I do love the 5.1 software.

With all due respect to the Futaba (which I love their products), it's not out yet and if it was it would not have the Vstabi PC software. The Vstabi software gives you a HUGE level of granular control over the FBL setup as well as the intuitive setup menus to walk you through the process.

All that aside, how about this little tid bit. Vbar includes a USB plug directly built into the unit. One day Futaba will release PC software to tune to the CGY750 like they did for the GY520. However, to use said software you will need to purchase the Futaba CIU-2 USB adapter which is guess who much....$45!

It's all the same at the end of the day...

If it makes you feel any better, my local hobby shop told me that the price of the Futaba system will NOT be $319. The price has increased significantly. He could be wrong I suppose...

Futaba always offers first class products, but Mikado has been doing this since 2002 I think. The difficult part of FBL in software, not gyro etc. Wait till the GY750 is in non pro hands before talking about quality and ease of programming. Just look at the Total-G, CY has also always meant quality but they are also having problems with FBL software.

I have paid and updated to 5.1. As said before, I love the 5.1 ease of programming to get the unit to function properly - of course with the help of MrMel's video's.

Be happy. I bought a V-bar unit a long time ago running 3.16 for $479 and had to pay to upgrade it to 4.0, and then had to pay again to update it to 5.1. Fortunately now they make the upgrade from 3.16 to 4.0 free.

At least they didn't just make the old unit obsolete. That is what most companies do.
