I have a weird situation I'm trying to figure out with my TRex 600 ESP. It seems that upon spool up with both the main and tail blades off I'm getting some tail vibes. The issue is that the vibes only occur at around 75%-80% full RPM and goes away after fully spooled. If you had to take a guess what do you think is causing this?

Is this normal or something I should be concerned with?

Normal unless you fly in that percentage.

Take a few minutes to balance the tail rotor assembly.

Vibration

Is there a reason you spool up without blades? Put your blades on and fly! If it vibrates then ask questions. Among other things I beleive it's unsafe to spool up w/o blades.

There is nothing unsafe about test spooling an electric model sans blades (unless you choose to stick your fingers in the spinning gearing). The system is incapable of overspeed in the absence of load due to the nature of electric; nothing is going to fly off or hurt the modeler. There's no safer way to test the driveline and ESC set up.

I'd wonder if may the torque tube is in too tight or some other factor has slightly bowed it. Possible the bearing carrier not in the tail boom straight? Could also be a bent tail output shaft. I don't think it should vibrate like that on a no load spool up.

Folks I have just solved the vibe situation I was having. After going through torque tube, main bearings, blade grips, thrust bearings, main/tail bearings, flybar rod, main shaft etc.. this is what I found. I took a friends advice and began isolating the head setup to try and determine where the vibes were actually coming from. First, I removed the head and spooled up with with just the swash, main shaft, with out either the main or tail blades. To my surprise there was absolutely ZERO vibes throughout the entire RPM range. After seeing this I knew the issue was with the remaining head components and now I was more determined than ever to solve the mystery. From here, I went back and meticulously setup the heli all over again - however I still had the vibes.

Then all of a sudden it dawned on me that I had never balanced the head. When I did so, I noticed that one of my flybar paddles was slightly heavier than the other. After getting everything balanced out she spools up with ZERO vibes now just likes she is supposed to and is smooth as silk. Wow! I just never knew that something as seemingly as small as this could make such a difference. Many thanks out to all who chimed in to assist me with the problem I was having!!
