I have been learning to use videodub (with deshaker) and I like it for editing and deshaker. But it leaves my files 10 times as big. I read in a an AVI file at 174 mb, edit or cut out a lot of it, then when I save the file it is 10 times as big or bigger, 1.8 Gb. Even tho it is a shorter video clip.
So how do I save it in reasonable size ? (In AVI format).
I tried some of the video filter codecs that is preinstalled in VD but those are even larger.
Help ???
.

Hi Paul,

You have to run the AVI file through Adobe's Media Encoder or some other encoder system to convert it into a Quicktime file or whatever type of file that you need it to be.

I hope this helps

Thanks Wayne, I have tried a lot of codec compression stuff, but can't seem to find one that works for me. I would rather keep it in AVI format, but I will keep you suggestions at the top.
I'll take at look at the Adobe stuff.

Thanks for the input

Hi GyroFreak, after you have completed phase one, and as you "save as avi" in phase two, you should select a compressor, in full processing mode, under the video item

For GoPro MP4 (audio is AAC) files I use MP42AVI software to convert to AVI
That leaves you with MPEG and PCM audio that opens in VD fine if the FFH H.264 video codec is installed.

I set video and audio to direct copy in VD and then edit.
No video recompression is done as it simply edits frames in or out.

On final edit I leave video as direct copy and set audio to full process then select AAC codec and use 128k, 48000 to encode audio on the last one.
You need to get the AAC audio "acm" codec to do that.

However if you use Deshaker or any video processing you will have to re-encode files as MP4 again.
Not found a codec to do that in VD but not needed to, I only use it to trim the boring bits out and with no re-encoding video it saves the file in under a minute.
Use a video codec to re compress and it seems to take an hour or so, more than I care to wait.

Comet,
Yes, I always verify "Full Processing mode" is enabled. Thanks for the suggestion but still any deshook or any VirtualDub files end up 10 times larger.
Most of the Codecs I have tried are very complicated or just don't seem to work for me.
I have added MSU V1.2 to the compressor list and enabled it but it doesn't seem to do any compression.

Thanks MPA. Take awhile to digest that.
