Very common. It happens whenever there are VIP "movements". I would venture to guess that there will be more of these in the future.

Its fairly new, and happens when the president or someone of that caliber fly into an area.

Its a shame you have to check notams and tfr's for model's.
`
This seems to be a sign of things to come, the faa governing our modeling.

As an aviator, I was trained to look for notams, tfrs, etc before a flight, and I bet few if any modelers were taught anything about these, let alone know about those restrictions to flight.

I am not in an area where these occur, maybe the local clubs are brought up to speed and prepared. Someone will chime in to add.

Very common here too. It happens every time the President comes home for a visit. I wonder what percentage of RC pilots are not club members, never hear about these restrictions, and fly totally unaware. For that matter, I wonder to what extent local law enforcement is kept informed and assigned the additional task of watching for violations.

What my question is? What about the people that don't belong to clubs?
I know a lot of people that just fly in empty open fields that are out of the loop..... I mean heck it was just by chance that I got this message, since I don't belong to the club anymore..

I wonder if they have tested shooting down a RC heli or UAV quadrotor with a F-16?

they just have to get close enough to catch you in the jet wash or suck it down the intake.

I agree, this is an issue, given that violating a tfr or notam could result in some sort of penalty or other. Not to mention the fact that it could create an incident that could cause irreparable damage to our rights in the hobby.

They have been doing that since shortly after 9/11

If you're on the outer edge of the TFR and not flying some gigantic thing at 1000 foot, I doubt anyone would bother you. If you were within the 10mi inner circle and got noticed they would probably politely ask you to pack up and move along. Your response would likely dictate how you were treated from that moment forward.

I heard a story recently where a TFR was in effect and there were airplane guys flying in a field and there were 6 cops watching them fly. I don't think the cops even knew they were not supposed to be flying.

Can anyone post a provable (newspaper story, etc.) event of anyone getting into trouble for violating a TFR with a model aircraft? Hearing it second hand or imagining that it happened doesn't count. I doubt there will be any examples.

What about the guy that steps off his own porch and fires up a 450 for some smackdown in his own backyard in one of the restricted areas and has no clue these kind of restrictions even exist?

Will some one pull the 2.4 spread spectrum from the air?
