I don’t see a lot of information on the stock G290RC. Is it okay to run at 13,500-14,000 RPM in a heli? Or should I be looking at a 270 for that kind of RPM?

I'm thinking more your absolute redline will be 13,000rpm.

I think you're going to find that the "stock" motors especially in larger bores aren't going to like to turn that fast

if you need to turn them faster you might want to consider talking to the tuners

In a heli, stock motors are good at 11k rpm, modified ones 12k, or so. It is all variable. Too fast and there will be vibration, too slow and there may be heat and clutch issues. Sure there will be exceptions, valid ones for reasons. The smaller displacement ones can go a little faster than the larger ones. One application, such as the Vario XLV run the motor very fast, because there is a great load. Even in AP at 22-28lbs I run no greater than 11,500 on a modified 270RC. More is not better. Enjoy.

Thanks guys.

Looks like re-gearing the heli and a visit to one of the tuners is in order.

I just bought a G290RC and talked to three engine builders. They do not seem to have much experience with this particular engine. Pulling the information together:

After 13,200, vibes get bad
No one has a heli recipe for porting/crank mod on the 290 yet.
Wally said make sure the crank is trued to .001" or less and said run it stock. My crank was out .003", I was able to get it way under .001".
My choice on a stretched Helibug T600 with 690's running 1900 HS put it at 10,900 or 12,800. Everyone recommended 12,800.

Some suggested I go with a proven smaller displacement engine.
I say go big or go home.

I plan to start the break in on the bench.

Should be interesting....

Thanks Fastflyer keep us all posted on your findings.

15,000 rpm, Are you serious? What did you do to the engine to get it smooth at 15,000 rpm?
