I really love the design of the fes. Can it run mini servos or just full size servo's? What turnigy packs fits good and flys mild to intermediate 3d with decent flight times (5 1/2 plus)? How's the stock esc? Anything u now know that u wished u knew before you bought your x5? Not a newbie, have plenty of eheli experience just first dealing with gaui. Thanks for the info

I have only used full size servos in it, I have not seen anyone using smaller servos. Futaba BLS-451's work excellent, very nice centering on these servos.

4000 mah Nanos would be perfect IMO. I have seen Hyperion 4200 mah used, these fit well too. Depending on the weight a 4500 nano would work too.

Stock ESC will work fine if you are not pushing hard, the built in BEC is a bit challenged if you fly hard.

The torque tube design stinks big time. It's pinned on both ends and you have to press the pins out to change the TT bearing. It should have been more serviceable.

This is a full 30 sized heli and I would suggest use servos you would normally use on a 50 sized heli.

Standard setup comes with a 16T pinion. This will bring the full rpm to about 2800 with the provided 500mm blade. I would suggest reducing it to 15T or 14T for milder flight. In turn, this will increase your flight time.

We are running 4400 and get about 4min with 16T. Gaui just released 520mm blade to reduce disc loading. For this, I would reduce to 15T if you are running 16T with the 500mm blade.

14T and 15T are not listed on the website. I'll let you know if my order gets filled. If not, the other option is to use helical 14T or 15T with the new 120T helical main that is available.

I received the 14T and 15T helical pinion but wasn't able to use it due to lack of helical main gear until now.

Where can you get the new main gear?

I would imagine at Empire.

I just saw it on Gaui website. I've been wanting to reduce the head speed a bit but did not want to use the H550 pinion as it does not cover the whole height of the main gear.

120T beveled main gear is machined from delrin. The part number is 208913.

14T 5mm shaft pinion (straight) is 901401 which appears to be for H425 or H550. However, it has 9.5mm height which will be taller than the x5 main gear and will work well. Unfortunately, 16t to 14t is too much of a drop unless I'm using huge main blades.

15T pinion (straight) with 901501 part number is 7mm tall gear and is not suitable for X5. I will ask if there is a 9.5mm tall 15T pinion.

At the moment, there is no 9mm high 15T pinion from Gaui.

Benny, alot and i do mean alot have been using the 15t hurricane pinion for a while now and no reports of an unusual problems arising from it.
Give it a go mate.
The beveled ones are scarily quiet and so so so so smooth.Sounds like it dropped 1000rpm but it's there

Also as mentioned, the new outrage uses mod 0.8 like the Gaui and do pinions for 5 and 6mm shafts. Not sure on their heights though

I know it will work. But, I will not put harder material that does not cover full height of a softer material. This will cause uneven wear and also not maximize the available tooth strength.

I know other brands have the gears. However, I do feel that solution has to be there within the brand.

Understanding what users want/need is a first step toward success.

Soon as I wake up from my hibernation, I will test the bevel gears. It would be great to incorporate thrusted main bearing to accommodate the bevel main gear.

Benny, totally hear you and agree that there should be taller pinions from the factory. They can even be used on the Hurri so one line can cover all.

That being said, a far few have been using the Hurri 15t and 14t since pretty much the debut of the X5 mid last year and no unusual wear, let alone ever heard of a gear stripping. I can totally understand your concerns. The 15t Hurricane pinion measures at 7mm, the X5 maingear at 8mm.Wear from experience has been negligible if that but I definitly would put my hand up for a larger gear for simply the reasons you pointed. The right thing is to have a listing for different straight pinions for the X5. I have a feeling that alot are thinking that they are stuck with just the choice of a 16t

if it came down to wanting to drop HS and using the Hurri 15t , i wouldn't hesitate though...but that's me.Rather that, than run low curves and cause other issues.

Hopefully development keeps going the way it has been and no resting on lorals occurs
I'm loving the beveled gears... not sure if it is my one-way or the gear itself, but mine didn't run perfectly true. Had to set mesh tighter than i would've liked on a high spot.(beveled gear i set with a bit less backlash than straight..almost tight up) Though after the first flight, it was all perfect.
Looking forward to hear how you go with yours

Vas
