Hi Guys.

Just wanted to post some video done with a modified GAUI quad.
Finally can enjoy the spring weather in Switzerland.
Even cheep controllers can produce quite good results.

Some pics of the quad:

Cheers!

That is excellent! I am very impressed with the stability of the enlarged Gaui. What software did you use for post processing the video?

That is excellent. I also use iMovie and my footage are ok but not quite a nice. You do have a better but heavier camera onboard. I am just trying to get the Gaui to pick up the Sony NEX-5 nicely outdoor. Right now I am maxing out the weight limit with the stock setup so I am getting a bigger frame and higher current ESCs. I will try to swing some 10" props and see how it flies. If it is not up to my expectation I will go to bigger motors.

You have proved that the GU344 is fine with bigger motors and ESCs.

Hi Jago,

Very nice. That is the cleanest video that I have seen yet from a quad. How bad of a beating does the video take if the wind is blowing 5 to 10 knots when flying around a building like that?

No, it´s for the moment landing on the skids. I don´t really have any good handle to catch it on. The arms are a bit close to the props to feel comfortable :-)

Cheers!

hmm.. 10" props on the 1100kv scorpions. I would do a lot of bench testing before trying to fly with a nice camera as the NEX-5. I think they will not support the load for a long time. Also the Clips on the bottom of the motors are not that stable.
You can get good motors from HobbyKing for a few $$ and i think that is a good insurance for your camera.

However you do, good luck! hope you will post some footage.

Cheers

Hi Weyne

The video can be quite stable also in wind, but you really have to let the quad decide where to go, If you will try to force it it will get unstable "a little bit like sailing". I would not recommend to fly over 10knots if you need to have good footage, in that case better to wait for a good day :-)

I know you are right. I am using the NEX 5 on the quad right now but that doesn't mean I should use it for long term. I should upgrade the motors. I already ordered the higher current ESCs.

Thank you for your inspiration.

Jago,
Very impressive !........it's very easy to fall into the notion that more $$$$$$$$ equals better footage. Your stunning video proves the point that regardless of the spend, there is no substitute for a nice subject matter, good RC piloting skills and creative editing.

Thanks for posting and sharing your knowledge.........looking forward to more ?

Thanx for the nice words!
There will definitely be more, just the weather could be better. Itś still dark when getting home from work in the evenings, and weekends usually raining :-)

Jago,
I understand the climatic constraints..........just add wind into your mix and you could be describing the 'Emerald Isle' aka Ireland

BTW....what are you using to stabilize your PS One mount ?

The mount is not stabilized. I tried in the beginning to stabilize it, but it did not look "real", very strange movements, I like when it tilts a bit with the movement.
But what I used was two GP750 gyros when I did the test.
Now i just use two slides on my radio to get a good angel.

Cheers!

Trying to get the CG as close as possible to the prop axis. Ofcourse still way off, but at-least it helps a bit.
Also it is very simple to change when not under.
