Sport. I have already achieved my initial goal, which was to fly an RC helicopter. I didn't even know they could do the fancy 3D stuff, I had not seen 3D until spring 07 when I got my first helicopter and started looking on the interweb for info. My first thought was "cool". My second thought was "don't see myself learning that any time soon".

Is 3d cool? Yeah. Will I ever be able to do it? Don't know. Will I ever care? Probably not. It's easy for a kid or 20something to spend all day every day screwing with RC helicopters. I have a 50+ hour a week job, a house and two cars to maintain, a wife, and a life. Somewhere in all of that I also fit flying RC helicopters and planes. So yeah, I'm coming up on 4 years in the hobby and all I can do is sport, how horrible.

Actual time flying is very different than years in the hobby. I would bet I have less than 200 hours actual flying time in helicopters and I have full control in fff, loops, rolls, all orientations, some invert and tic-tocs. A lot of guys build 200 hours in a season. On the sim I have all invert orientations, backwards flight, sloppy piro flips, funnels, hurricanes. I'm just not in a huge hurry to transfer that to real life. When I walk my butt out, get my flying on and finish, I am happy. Could not even entertain giving a fraction of a damn what some little backwards hat wearer thought of how I flew.

Hey, if someone wants to work my job and pay my bills, mow my 3/4 acre yard, wash my cars, etc for me, I'll go out and practice 3D every day.

very interesting man; it seem like you have a hand full but still find time for your hobby same here man, I have a house 3 car and 5 girl to maintain; i invest some time into the hobby i do not work much as i use to i still do some acting on the side while i do some call job as technical pc repair

i play some non supported roll in a lot of movie; this all way take some time away from the hobby' as i have to work 15 + hour a day with camera crew. on my free time i use the sim or at the field smacking down the

I had a lightbulb moment watching the last 3 minutes of that f3c video, havent had any passion for helis for nearly a year now, but watching that video makes me understand why.

Think I will get a heli and not even bother with 3d anymore, 3d ruined it for me.

Those hovering maneuvers in F3C could almost be boring to watch.....................unless you have tried it yourself! Then you
can really appreciate their precision abilitys. Absolutely love that
smoothness/grace in the flying maneuvers too!

I would also say that about some of the 3D moves, if they weren't at
crack/gnat/mosquitoes on steroids'-type speeds!

Jason J. your story above couldn't have said it much better!!

I wonder what would be a good heli for aerobatics these days, Align helis seem to be more for 3D, not sure if the 700e would make a nice aerobatic heli as Ive never seen one flying, the 600e was an absolute peice of crap for FFF, I had a JR Airskipper that was nice but there just too old nowadays.

I even think the older style Mikado Logos were very nice for F3c, but I think the newer ones are designed for 3d also.

Seems all the helis that fly nice and smooth and fast are all too old, Raptor 50`s and Jr helis e.t.c

That is w. 3G? And everything else except batt/transmitter?

Don't have one, but what I have been around them/seen them fly, think
you would probably be happy w. the Trex700.

And it is one of my favorites on Phoenix............

depend`s on the bird rex 500 & 450 pro kinda push me toward`s fast flying and my humble version of smack down,
Logo 500 is more majestic more big air flying roll`s flip`s loop`s funnel`s hurricane`s pie dish kinda stuff.

I noticed that after a crash with my 450 the next flight with 500 i`s usually a wild adrenaline rush full hard flying feel`s good

$1200 with everything just add receiver, only looked LHS so could less elsewhere.

Maybe in a few weeks of being in my new job, $1200 is a lot of money though, the first 6 weeks I will get $2000 each week on casual rates so I could afford to get one, but I need to know if Im fit enough to do the job yet, I havent started and my legs have become very skinny.

Seems you already think it's crap. So does it make a difference if you're confused about it?
