To the guy who gives me crap because I can't 3D
as long as you are happy,it doesn't matter if you have a high end heli and a futaba 12z and go out and tail in hover.Unless you are competing, its a hobby and supposed to be fun and relaxing in your free time. Now if you want to push yourself and do extreme stuff, thats cool too, thats what its all about.

I have had guitar students who go out and buy a 4000 dollar Martin acoustic guitar, and sit on their porch and strum G,C and D while knocking back a few cold ones....and they couldn't have been happier.

Its all relative to what you want out of it.

The guys who put down flyers skills vs the ammount of time they have in, are out of line IMHO.statements like "i've been flying way less time than you and can do XXXX manuver already"...so what?its all about the journey and besides usually the XXXX manuver looks sloppy and out of control anyway cause the guys in a hurry usually skip the basics

I fly for myself, no one else. If all I want to do is hover, then I hover for me. If all I wanna do is go up & down the field in a lazy back & forth circuit, then so be it. I sure as hell am not going to do anything I don't feel comfortable with just because someone else thinks I should or because it's "not really flying". Peer pressure does not work on me. It's my money in the air and I will do what I damn well please.

If you wanna see me do some stuff I won't do with my own heli, then feel free to offer up your heli instead.

I quite hovering...why? It's too hard! Anyone who downs someone for hovering needs to try some FAI precision hovering like a "hovering M". One will gain much more appreciation of "hovering" when one is able to complete this maneuver accurately.

Everyone started in this hobby at the same skill level. Everyone also has their own pace at which they learn. Some can't wait to do full-out, smack-down, in-your-face 3D while others couldn't be bothered with all that stick-banging.

Although I do mild to hard 3D(Ground smacking) I like to hover and just fly around. Working on my first scale now. It's certainly cheaper to hover.....most of the time.

I get teased by the pilots at the field but once I comply with what they think is flying(3D), they shut up and go away to just watch me hover. Now when everyone is around, I do perhaps 2 3D flights and no more teasing.

The moral of this story is; Fly like you want to. It's all good as long as it's fun to you. You should have seen the look on their faces when I showed up with a plane

Age plays a big part in peoples flying style.

The young will fly a Snort Thruster 2000 with a ridiculously expensive FBL system and 100C batteries smacking the hell out of it 1/2 inch off the deck for 3 mins. Mostly because their dad is paying for everything!

The older generation (the dad!) will fly or hover a Raptor 30 running on plane fuel or some sort of gasser and you might see the occasional loop or roll.

All tongue in cheek you understand.

60% of the time, it works every time!

the folk who like to go around and bad mouth other talent is the one that cannot really fly. they cannot even fly a figure 8 if asked. but thank heaven for what i can do and bold enough to show it all off. the trash talk seem like pure jealousy to me.
Yep, I cannot do a figure 8...sorry I'll not critique your flying any more.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRFYdV2ftJ4

Actually most folks on here are fairly polite and encouraging. The guys who get criticized are the ones who label their threads with eye catching titles like "My Bad @$$" helicopter is the best, or "rate my flying". Or the guys who say "post your video because I've posted mine and I think I'm better than you". Those guys are the ones setting themselves up for criticism and look like teenaged punks. Not the guy who says "took the Rex out Sunday" and posts a vid. Or "Maiden-ed the new Logo" and posts a vid. And guys who don't bump their own threads.

While I personally never disparage someone for not being very good, I do get a bit annoyed when I see some young guy whose been flying for all of a year throwing the crazy 3D smackdown... That gets annoying..

So I have the opposite problem. I hate on the guy's that are really good

Just kidding, they're cool too.

It took me a while to figure out that I was just in it for myself and I'd fly the way I want to and not worry about if I'm impressing anyone else. It's much more fun like that.

The only time I'll say something to someone at the field about their flying (unless asked by them for a honest opinion) is if they're being dangerous. Then I will step up real quick and let em know. I can't stand someone breaking the rules or flying completely out of control, and it's real easy to spot those types.

Oh and I think I'm a decent pilot. Got too much of that airplane taint in me though, I fly too smooth. Try as I might I just cant get the super fast throwdown stuff. Oh well. Maybe I should try F3C with the rest of the old guys . Damn? Am I an old fart already? Darn you 3D whippersnappers!

This hobby is like Kryptonite to chicks!

I've been flying for about 2 1/2 years and fairly recently getting into the 3D aspect of flying. I fly quite good, just want to work on being more precise now. I can relate to dealing with the people who like to talk smack. We got one guy that was putting my landings down because I like to come in tail first most of the time. He said that he used to fly heli's, but haven't seen him fly, so his opinion don't mean nothing to me. I just ignore him now.

If I were Mark, I'd ban this guy just for being an arrogant, "I'm better than you" mentality.

It doesn't matter how good you are or how bad you are, it's the personality and willingness to help others and ability to take criticism it what ever way it may come.

You'll never be "pro" with your attitude, although you may call it what you want.
