Yeah, I'm gonna wait for some test flights before I commit to one...

Although I'm not sure I can resist it if I see it available at RH!

Anyone have an idea when this will be available?

Will this engine fit in our 90 motor mounts?

Do you have to pay a gas guzzler tax with that?

YS 120

I think it would be better to use nitrous and a throttle switch to get you extra power at the instant you need it.

The other and cheaper option would be to convert to diesel, which makes lots of torque, and nearly the same rpm in some applications. It seems to give better, more instant throttle response also.

Someone sold a diesel conversion yesterday here on RR. THe video may still be on YouTube.

Diesel Conversion

I forgot to mention the other real large benefit to converting to diesel. You will get nearly double the run time on the same tank. They also run cooler, so would be good for scale. This guy with the 30 size ran a piece of tubing from the muffler to the end of the tail to get rid of the exhaust, and lost only 200 rpm.

Yeah, that's a big minus. Additionally, where can you get it? I looked into it years upon years ago while flying planks. The smell turns a bunch of folks off, couple that with the added tuning (compression + needles , weather, heat of the motor, etc) and I think you've seen about the peak of its popularity. Quite frankly, it has never really been mainstream here in the US. I've read about R/C diesels since the late 80s or so. Nothing new..it's just folks don't see it as a viable alternative. Maybe it's marketing...who knows. They're definitely cool, though!

Aside from the above threadjack, I am curious how this new 120 will fare. I'm sure it'll be a hit with the 3D crowd. But my interest is in watching what change, if any, it'll do to the FAI rules. So now, you've supposedly got the KME 110 in the making....the YS 120..what next? I'll tell you this, if FAI allows something larger than a .91, you'll see an explosion in engine options of the larger displacement.
