Eric,

After reading your accident, I grounded my new Freya E yesterday, inspected the ESC and found out the heatsink was loose on one end. I emailed Clint @CC and helped verify the flaw, so it is going back to get fix.
I had the esc fasten with a small zip-tie to the frame, so unaware of it, the zip-tie kept the heat sinks tight doing its work. (until the tie would flex, loose grip and the sinks would come loose)

If the sinks halves separate, it would cause the boards to have no sink, overheat, and then, fireball.

Because you shared your mishap, you saved my model.

least to say, I feel horrible about your loss.

I'm glad that you caught this before a similar event happened to you! My HV160 was secured with tape, as well as bolted on all 4 edges to the tray. No way that was coming off, and i did check now and then to make sure the protective cover wasn't coming off, and it never was. I did this because i heard of one coming off before that could've been prevented by checking it, but i did regularly check mine

Honestly I am partial to higher cost ESC's, just not worth as much risk... I just still can't wrap my arms around why one would choose to buy a "more prone to fail esc" on such an expensive heli and equipment.

Sorry for your loss and best of luck getting it up in the air and hopefully a few companies might step up to help you out.

so far i havn't gotten any help from companies but i am not by any means going to go "door to door" lol . And i've tried to say many times, but Castle isn't a cheap ESC at all! I was completely comfortable putting this in my expensive helicopter. obviously, I will re-consider putting in another one but it's not out of the question. I still think Castle is a good brand of equipment, and the way i see it, everything on the helicopter can/will fail at one time or another

I don't disagree. Anytime with electronics/programming/parts there will be failures... You can minimize those though by less prone or higher quality components. I just have seen one to many artciles about CC that I wouldn't touch one, not saying they are bad at all, just not for me. Best of luck on getting it up in the air again.

I agree with Eric, cc is a good brand.. Are yall taking into consideration how man cc there are compared other brands... Tons and tons of people have had failures on align helis, yet there still are millions flying, it's a part of this hobby. The important to do is learn from what happens, I now carry a arasol can fire extinguisher cause of this story

I know a conversation was had with Castle about this today for sure. We offered to give Eric all of the parts to fix the machine at dealer cost just in good faith to help kind of re-set this situation. Castle is also going to replace the ESC. So while this is a unique case, and not the norm. Everyone wanted to help resolve this situation. And with any luck the bird will be back up, and running strong soon.

Eric, get me a list and we will go from there.

thanks everyone. I really appreciate the help i've gotten from other pilots, as well as top-notch support from CYE and Castle Creations. Couldn't ask for more. Castle Creations is going to send me a replacement controller, and CYE was very generous to help me out on parts! I'm very thankful

In the end we all care about our customers, and for sure hate to see stuff like this happen. So we thought it was the right thing to do.

We are currently passing a list back and forth, and should have what he needs to fix the bird. So with any luck he will be able to put this one behind him soon.

Eric, just get back to me when you can.

I don't think a esc burning up is "part of the hobby" that's abit foolish sorry. I've had every size of jazz, jive there is and dozens of them and not one fire. The more CC hears it's part of the hobby less they'll do to improve their product qc and reliability wise, something to think about.
