702nitro,

Get a 10/22... You can't to wrong. And with $500, you can buy two...

If you look at my photos, you will see I have several. I'm a big 22 long rifle guy. They are easy to shoot and cheap to shoot. And if you can hit your target at 200 yards with a 22LR, then you should be able to hit your target at 600 yards with a "real" gun (like a .308 or 30-30).

Now about the Ruger 10/22 specifically. It is built very solid. And the design has been going strong for almost 50 years. If you buy one, count on handing it down to your kids... Because it will last that long. Other things I like are the small 10 round magazines that fit completely inside the gun. Lastly, their are tons of stocks, triggers, scope, sights, etc. for it.

Another thumbs up for a 10/22 I have had the same one for 20+ years and thousands of rounds through. Still fires great.

I appreciate the responses guys!

Hughes, you don't mess around do you

Okay, I guess I have made up my mind; the ruger 10/22 it is!
Another thing and forgive me if I don't make sense, but for someone getting into it, is it preferable to start off with a rifle first, then a hand gun later?

I was thinking handgun but got a little intimidated by it, so my head says a rifle.

My opinion is rather limited so take it with a salt lick. But I would imagine you could liken it to should I learn to fly airplanes or helicopters ? Apples and Oranges.

Reference hand gun or rifle, I say start with rifle. Overall, they are easier to shoot. A handgun is a little harder to hit your target with. As such, people get discouraged easily.

Since a rifle is easier, "its more fun." And if you get "too good" with your rifle, you just move your target further back. Or put up a "BLACK DEATH TARGET." Look it up on Google... Damn, they are hard!

Hey Bundy,

I didn't think you were allowed to have these in IL. I see what looks like an extra hole in the side of it. I hope you keep it at your summer home.

Either way, nice guns. I like the Wilson Combat, too.

You can't have a Colt AR in Cook County, but you can have any one of the many non colt AR type rifles. Just shows how stupid the people writing the laws really are.

I own nothing not approved.Cook County by Chicago it is not legal.I have LEO in the family and lead a clean life.

IDK what the extra hole you are seeing is.It is a bone stock AR-15 Sporter 20".1989-1992 somewhere in there.I also have the Colt 22 conversion kit.

I was referring to what appeared to be a small hole just above the selector lever. Looking at the picture closer, the "hole" in question appears to be slightly off center from the selector, so I'm not sure what it is. Maybe just an engraving mark?

A hole where I first thought it was would normally be used for mounting certain parts that make the gun shoot really fast. I'm not positive, but I don't believe that guns with "those parts" are legal anywhere in IL. That's where my original comment was coming from. Obviously, my old, tired eyes are ... well, old and tired.

Nonetheless, you have a very nice collection there. The .22 conversion would be tons of fun! I need to get (or make) one of those so I can afford to shoot more.

Know exactly what you mean there!

Speaking of safes ... I just noticed about 3 minutes ago that the safe is getting splattered with oil/coolant from the milling machine that's sitting next to it. Crap! Gonna have to take care of that.

Does anyone on here reload their bullets? Ive been saving all my .45 auto brass since Im considering reloading. I dont shoot my .45 alot becuase of ammo prices and believe me, I want to shoot it alot! Ive never really been able to get a good answer on this. Lets say I pay $20 for a box of 50 remington 230 grain 45 auto. What would it cost to reload that box of 50? (approx) The rounds dont necessarily need to be 230 grain either, thats more of home protection for me (230 grain hollow points) I just want to reload them as plain jane lets say 185 grain target rounds? Whatcha think???

If you only have to bend over once to pick it up it's a good landing.
