Still confused. I have a new in box HC3extreme that I was going to send in to be upgraded to the SX model. Boxed it in a small box 6in square and tried UPS the lowest shipping to Germany was $110. Now that plus the upgrade cost app $180 and return shipping totals more than half a new unit. That is too much. The way I understand it, to be upgraded it needs to be returned, but just to upgrade the problems such as failsafe, can it can be done with a download ? Or does the Extreme version not have the problems the SX does ? I would rather have it upgraded to to the latest version {SX} but the total cost is way too much, I can buy a new CGY750 for that amount.

This is from their catalogue;

"The HC3-SX is equipped with a flash memory and can therefore be
updated in service to the latest software level."

This reads to me that it can be user updated - no..??

No where does it say that it has to be returned to Captron, except when you're upgrading it to a different model.

If it does need to be returned, to achieve it's advertised and claimed functionality, this should be at Captron's expense imo.

I send things around the world

With US mail mind you which will cost you around $15 to get it sent to Germany. It goes first class, the trouble is that there is no tracking for it as it rides on passenger airlines (why its cheap) and once it gets to Germany the US mail system doesn't know what happens to it.

The good news is that I've NEVER lost any package sent this way, and there has been many of them. You just have to trust it will get there and sure enough it will.

One guy once insisted that I send him his package Fedex to England, and they asked $99 to get it shipped I did question if I could get the rate down, and the rep there said if I could fit it in this smaller box the lowest rate would be $70. So I did that and it went on its way, so if you insist on tracking you could try fedex for about 2/3rd the cost if you squeeze it in a tight box. Most likely prices went up and the $99 then is equal to the rates of today for $110.

All the best Dave and see you at MHA most likely

I have sent a HC3-X treme to Captron (Pennsylvania, USA to Germany), and the cost was about $15.00 (or less)as Raja stated. I sent it to Captron the way they sent an updated one back to me. i.e. just the unit itself, with some small bubble wrap around it, and placed into a small padded mailing envelope. Insured for what you feel is correct ($450 in my case).

As I understand it, to upgrade to an SX (from"X" it MUST always be sent back to Captron. And regardless of what the feature description text implies, it must also be sent back to Germany for ANY upgrades at this time. I am ASSUMING that it will also need to be sent back to get it upgraded to BE ABLE to be upgraded in the future WITHOUT sending it back.
Got that?

Dave, the "X" flies my 5 blade electric NOTAR really nicely. I am very pleased. I have just purchased a new HC3-X for my flybarless R22 Gasser.

Thanks Sandy, I bought it for the Dauphin project but since that is down the road some I was thinking about using it in the Spectra for awhile. Still may send it in sometime.

Hi,

Is there any new info on the HC3-SX Aux output fix? A failsafe would be nice also and is a Must Have when using it as a stand alone receiver. The HC website does not seem to have any new info and they have not responded to any of my emails.

A hardware change if needed should not be a concern. All units will need to be returned to Captron for updated firmware anyway. The new firmware will enable online firmware updates as well.

I've got an Extreme and I like it a lot, the Failsafe with my ATX SD10-G RX works great and the FBL sensor was easy to setup. No issues so far. I'm running it on 8 volts with 94910 servos.

Official info from the manufacturer

Updated information on the horizon issue with the HC3-SX:
(updated May 6th 2011)

The rarely occurring issue is now solved and a corresponding fix is found.
As this also includes a slight modification in the hardware, not only firmware, the prearrangements for the updates as well as production of new units will call on another 3 weeks. We hope for your appreciation.

Furthermore, there will be 2 additional new featured released with this update:
- Online update possibility for all the X-series’ units (HC3-Xbase, HC3-Xtreme, HC3-SX), no more need to send the units for future updates (applies to lately produced and updated units only)
- Programmable throttle failsafe when using Spektrum/JR satellites directly with the HC (without external main receiver)

As soon as the preparative procedures are taken, we will inform you about the returns processing.

Hope that helps

If it ain't broke then break it.

The way i understand it. If you have a current unit and any units already shipped/in stock at LHS then you will have to send these in to get firmware flashed by Captron one time only. Captron will start to release units that are already flashed soon.

Hope this helps

If it ain't broke then break it.
