Unknown true quantity but a good guess is somewhere around 500 (new as kits, crashed, built, in parts, etc). Maybe 25 are flyable, as a W.A.G.

Why so many? Because I've been interested in preserving the history and technology of this extremely fascinating and challenging arm of the R/C hobby since the early 1990's. Eventually a fair percentage of the pristine-condition models will be put on display and the ones that are duplicates (of lesser overall quality) will be sold, traded or flown. If the cost is 'right', I grab it up.

Getting to experience the handling qualities of the earliest models (such as the Du-bro Whirlybird 505) is something only a few pilots can claim to have done (am I still the only one in recent years successful in flying the 505?) and at least I can forward my views of the handling qualities of such models if others don't have the chance to fly one themselves.

How much room is needed to store all these machines? The entire house, minus one bathroom and one washroom as well as the laundry room.

So there's my story and I'm sticking to it! notice my tagline:

I swear, you guys with over 100 helicopters should be on that TV show Hoarders.
That is just crazy.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

Has there been 500 different models out, or do you have several of each?

I can guaranty that over the 41 years of the existence of RC heli's there's far more than 500 different models.

I have duplicates of many as indicated in my first posting on this subject.

I was thinking I had enough helis until I read this tread. I only have 20, 19 ready to fly, one needing only a new tail boom... Now I can think about getting another chopper!

Im way way down the listings as i only have 6, a raptor 30v1, raptor 50v1, raptor titan, raptor 60, morley maverick XR and a micro mold lark. The 4 raptors are ready for flying, the other two are not.

If it doesnt move and its meant too... use WD 40. If it moves and its not meant too...use duct tape!

Helis--
This thread is of no value unless you guys posting numbers have some pics to show them

My feeling about helis has always been that quality is where it's at...not quantity..

I used to have a bunch of helis but realized that it was a bit of a waste ..so now I keep a stall of a handful of primo machines and that satisfies my addiction.

pictures...
as they say ..a picture is worth a thousand words...simply saying you have 20 or 30 or more helis means nothing..lets see some pics of them..

I think that is much cooler than just writing down a number..also gives us an opp to see what everyone has
