Didn`t miss much
As usual it`s mostly a plane show with about 10% helis.

Not that great a show, you`d be better off going to IRCHA.

How about the good stuff. Did the FAA takes all your names so they can come in the middle of the night, knock your door down, confiscate your heli's then lock you up in some far off prison cell?? Heard they're building a new wing at Gitmo for RC aircraft hobbyists.

Opps, this is the wrong thread for that.

Don't think anyone in our area will be going again. Each year it has been less and less.

The AMA doesn't seem to get it. Modelers are easy to figure out and attracting them is easy. They like big swap meets. They like "show prices". The like to see the "new" stuff. Instead, the AMA Convention outdoor swap meet gets turned off, then a year later gets put into a room that is way, way too small. Manufacturers don't show up in droves. Floor space price vs. no one walking through the isles? What's in it for them?

A unverified story from guys BS'ing at the boat area: For years there was a a small artificial pond where the kids could run RC boats and the boat guys could show off their fantastic craftsmanship. They are just a modeler's club, like any other club. This year (as reported by the few boat guys there)AMA wanted $7000 to put up the pond. What club has $7000 to spend on a three day deal? Hence, no pond and very few boats.

With the success of Toledo and White Plains it would seem the AMA would have ample experience to draw on for advice for a successful trade show. I'll bet the advice would not include - no swap meet area of consequence, no real area for model displays, but have lotsa room for guys to fly foamies around. There must be ways to incentivize manufacturers to show up; other shows do it.

In any case, it needs to be fixed.

The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Sorry to break it to you, but the WRAM show has seen a serious decline in recent years and to a lesser extent the Toledo show is experiencing the same thing.

If modelers are easy to figure out then basic business rules should be even easier to figure out. No profit = no vendors. With everyone buying from certain mail order vendors and margins even small than they used to be not many vendors can afford to attend a show. Do the basic math and figure it out yourself.

BTW, Take a look at the WRAM show vendor list. Several vendors within a short 2-3 hour drive don't even attend anymore.

Ama Show
I believe this show will go away.
All anyone who already flys or those wanting to get in have to do is look on internet to find forums such as this or online shops.

changes...
I agree with ACE...

For exhibitors, trade shows are very expensive. For a big show like iHobby, for floor space for one of the big distributors, they'll pay upwards of $50k to attend, soup to nuts. You have to sell a lot of hobby goods to cover that cost, if you cover the cost.

The face of the hobby is changing, as in aging. In my limited hobby trade show experience (Toldeo & iHobby), most of the attendees were retirees, hobby shop owners/reps and upper-middle class consumers or blue collar locals.

People do like to have hands on with toys and gadgets, but its become less of a drive for younger generations to go hop around to trade shows and event to check out the latest and greatest. The internet has somewhat satisfied that.

The trade show industry as a whole is trying to overhaul itself to compensate for the changes in technology and financial mindset of todays potential attendees and exhibitors, but it's going slow.

It is effecting every industry. Nissan was absent from the Detroit Auto Show despite their sales being up for the last year.

Just an Observation on the AMA Expo, is that its so close to the holidays.. why not book a little later, say march.
Another, is advertisement, only seems like modelers know about the show.
The other is might change to the LA Fairplex, were maybe set up some buddy box sites, be it helicopter, airplanes or what ever allow others to try thier hand, instead of behind a net,let them see/hear some actual nitro smoke..RCX Has a big draw.
I hate to see these shows go by the wayside, its good to expose the next generation to the hobby.
