I have a blue lipo 11.1v 1500mah 20c battery and I want to know if I can use it in my radio or does it have to be a transmitter battery.

transmitter battery is usually a lower C rating (so it is lighter), smaller wires and transmitter specific connectors.
if yours fits, and you can wire it to your TX power in, you are fine.
Higher C rated packs cannot harm your transmitter
