Does anyone else think that the plastic clip on the bottom of the 550 canopy is a pain in the ass to clip onto the struts? To me it's just cumbersome.

You can unscrew it from the canopy and just leave it clipped on the heli. Then you install the canopy just like on the 450 Pro.

Where the clip mounts to the canopy, there are a few hairline stress cracks already.

It's a bulls**t design IMO!

After some fitting and smoothing on the clip, it works quit well.

A heat gun can be used to open the clip if needed.

Has anyone else tried this, and what were the results?

If you grab the front landing gear strut and use both of your thumbs on either side of the clip to push it on it will snap in place just fine. I had the same problem until a flying buddy showed me that technique!

It works like a champ and you don't have to mess with grinding or moding the clamp!

Use your dremel to narrow the portion of the clip that springs over the LG strut. I cut mine to about half its original width. Then smooth/radius all the edges. Works fine; easy to get on/off and holds well.

Yup
I bevel the leading edge of the molded ridge on the landing gear with a utility knife. Pretty much cut it down to a 45 degree ramp to back, so the clip still hold hard on back edge for fast backwards stuff.
