My son who is 9yrs old wants a video camera that he can use to post stuff to the internet and youtube etc. What is a good vidoe camera that is cheap to buy(around $100 or so) but is good quality and will work for him. I want one that stores it to memory and then can easily be transfered to the computer(dont remember what they are called) but I dont want to have to use tapes or disks etc.

I would definitely suggest the Flip camera for low cost, good quality, and ease of use. The memory is all built-in and uses a simple flip out USB connection to the PC. No cable to remember or lose. Also runs on AA so simple to run for kids.

$150

The other nice thing about the Flip is it comes with software that let's you upload your videos directly to Facebook or YouTube in just a couple clicks. Very user friendly.

These guys sell the flip and MANY others and top notch service?

http://pointofviewcameras.com/

They also have a channel on you tube where you can watch all their reviews as well as sample videos. Of course as well just type in camera you want in you tube and several, upon several of examples come up as well.

Also check this thread out,

Al Austria there has a new Kodak Zi10 that was 200 bucks that looks like it does good quality as well.

My significant other bought me a Flip Camera for Xmas and I am having a blast with this thing. I cannot believe how good the quality is. I have a Cannon HV20 but wanted something to throw in my pocket and not have to deal with tape for quick vids.

I know this is not heli related but here is some indoor flying from Sunday. The Flip does better outside with plenty of light. For the price I think its a great bang for the buck.

Make sure to watch in 720

The only complaint on flip is don't leave in hot car the protective plastic that covers lens will come off . I stuck it back on and it is fine but heat will cause glue to soften it seems .

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

Another vote for Flip. We just gone one ourselves before Christmas even though we have a really nice Panasonic camcorder. Because it is so small, we have literally used it more already, than we have in our entire time of owning our camcorder (3 years for it). You're just so much more apt to grab it and use it due to the portability.

The Flip is so easy to use, you simply video what you want, plug it into the computer (the software is built into the camera itself so nothing to load), and hit one button to share a video on youtube, facebook, twitter, or you can set up your own share channel with friends and family.

I got it for my wife but I've enjoyed using myself just as much. The video quality is surprisingly good too considering what it costs. Your 9 year old will have no problems becoming an instant expert either.

As a post script to this I would encourage him to learn basic editing with either Windows Movie Maker (Free and should be on your OS already) Also youtube has a built in editor, or to go one past that Adobe Premiere elements 9 is a good one and a bit more advanced but not crazy difficult.

If your using a Mac there is also good editing software installed, There are quite a few tutorials on youtube already to get him going and I would encourage him to make his own mini movies. It's tons of fun and gets the imagination going.

A trip to the store

There is one that my son and I shot in a day and he and I spent about a week of evenings learning how to put all that together. We had a blast.

I really enjoyed the video and the HUGE IMAGINATION! Quite funny and got me chuckling.

Your son is a great actor and all into it for the fun. He has a lot of enthusiasm.

Great Father and Son project and more to come.
