I do some field work in remote locations without electricity. I am looking for a solar solution to charge the batteries on my electric flyers. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? http://www.perigeepower.com/Service-Kit.html

I do not. I have seen guys charge their 3s 2200 packs using Harbor Freight Solar panels. Kind of Big and bulky though.

Ever thought about one of these?

The little generator looks interesting. I wonder how loud it is.

I own one of the generators. A lot of the electric guys will bad mouth it to no end. They swear by Hondas. No doubt Hondas are nice, but they start at about $600 on a good day.

This little Dude was about 100$, Sounds a bit like a String Trimmer at about 1/2 throttle, and it is 2 stroke, so it does smoke a bit, but a 25ft Ext Cord, and you can barely hear it.

No way is it Honda nice, but read the Reviews on the Harbor Freight Site. Change the Spark plug, Run 89 octane gas, and enjoy!

I should use it for a bit tomorrow, and I will try and get a Video posted of it in action.

Page 6 in the manual:

"CAUTION: 10. This generator is not intended to power sensitive electronic equipment* without the addition of an appropriate line conditioner and surge protector (both not included). Sensitive electronic equipment should be operated on approved inverter type generators or pure sine wave generators."

That generator is not under load. It gets MUCH louder under load. It will also smoke because it is a two stroke with mixed oil/gas. That rattle will only get worse with time.

Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

A switchmode power supply will work fine from one of those generators .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Maybe. But, I wouldn't take any chances.

Let me add to that drone...

Do you breathe?

In one fell swoop, you have the noisiest and most
polluting POS in existence...a good example of the cheapest
being the most expensive...and you will not make any friends
at the field, assaulting them with that...and the power is
the hashiest dirt you can get to flow as electrons...

You are lucky they do not string you up in Texas
for being an ecoterrorist...

M

ps

that two stroke crap is illegal here

M,

How many String trimmers and leaf blowers you guys have blownin' and going in the Summer in Malibu, or in the State of California in the Spring and Summer.... I am just sayin...Oh and this Fine piece of Craftmanship is EPA and Carb Certified. Smoke is non issue after about 1-2 min after start up.

Ohh, I don't need anymore friends... I have enough already.

Justin -That's the Sound of Quality!

Guys, Let me clear something up. This is not a high quality generator, nor do I claim it to be. I am not saying it will not fry your power supplies, or you Plasma TV's. In the 6 months that I have used the generator it has worked very well. I am only using a 800w Server Power supply that I gave 15.00 for anyway.

You guys draw your own conclusions, and use common sense. I am simply offering a suggestion.

Feel Free to suggest Honda's. I already did.

I indented this post to be about small solar generators (no polluting, no noise).

Well, as I said earlier I use a solar panel to charge. If you have any questions about it let me know.

Certainly throws a wrench into charging 5000Mah 5S packs at 1C. Guess if your flying field had roof to solar cell charging stations that would work.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?
