I posted this in HF as well. As anyone reading this knows, not alot of people are familiar with these models!
Questions!!!!

So, I am finding myself deviating from what I think is normal practice.....

1. Tail servo - Mercuriell's video shows him installing the servo on the near side of the(left) frame. I found that I needed it installed from the backside, due to PEM nut orientation. In addition, I found that installing 2mm shims gave me a better flow on the tail rod.

2. The elevator servo mount blocks(8mm) seem to be 2mm too short to give perfect alignment with the elevator bellcrank. I have the ball oriented to th inside for this. I am convinced that I need to fab blocks to get this, and longer screws.

3. Pitch/aileron servos - I have one mounted now without the "required" spacers and with the ball oriented to the outside, the ball is 1/32" further out from the frame than the pitch/aileron bellcrank ball. I haven't checked both, but I'm sure they're the same. I think this will be fine. My worry is the servo ball orientaion - out vs in....

4. Throttle - I'm at a loss right now because I have no clue how that linkage will connect without bumping it out alot! If the servo mounted on the frame stiffener it'd be perfect.

On this machine I'm using Futaba servos FWIW.

Hi

Ill will take some pictures of my Stratusses at home, so you can see how my servoes are installed.

My Stratus is a High Ratio (Bobby Watts) version.
What version is your stratus?

EDIT: i can see on HF that you also have the HR version

Hey Knud, I'm usually on HF but thought it'd be worth it to post here too. I talked to Jeff at MA and he said what I was wanting to do was right. My biggest concern is having all my angles right! I'd like to take a look at yours too - It's not easy to find detailed setups for this model!

Thanks Knud!

Thanks for the pics Knud!

I have commited to the placement of my servos now, other than the throttle - I see yours is nice going down to the arm on the motor. Mine is too far out to allow that - I may just leave it as is.
I would take pics but nothing is even hooked up yet - I'm waiting on power to set my servo wheels and all that stuff.
Question-I'm nervous about the crown/pinion mesh. I know it is tight - so can you loosen the collars on the main shaft and retighten them? Or are they one use?

Set your gear mesh to the high point on the main gear (easy to find). It will wear in in a couple of flights. If you mean the standard collars on the main shaft, you can tightne and loosen them as much as you want.

Here is how i do it:
Crowngear setup
I center the pionen on the crowngear, loosen both clamps on the mainaxle.
Then I lift the heli in the main grips, and then push down the lower claps and tighten it.
Then i place the heli on the table, and push up the upper clamps.

It has worked perfect for many years, and it was a tip from Eric Larson (former MA pilot)

Here is another tip
Engine allignment
If you do have Vibrationsproblem: loose the main engine plate, take it to hover, land, tight the bolts for the engineplate agian, without "twisting" the frames.

Hi Knud,

thank you very much for the hint....

I realised that on your first picture the main shaft retaining collar is not installed in the right direction.....the smal ring at the collar should be at the surface of the inner ring of the ball bearing....

maybe I'am wrong....but atteched the picture out of the stratus manual..

otherwise the friction between the clamp an the outer bearing ring is too high....

The current main shaft collar has that step on both sides, so they can go either way. I think originally they did only have a step on one side.
