I don't hate cops.

Have never had a problem with them.

I am pleased they are out there to help protect us.

live in my town. You'll learn to hate 'em. There's a serious lack of professionalism in 80% of them. The old timers are good guys, but we tend to hire young 'uns fresh out of cop school and they're a bunch of creeps. We've got stories here out the wazoo of overbearing cops just like this story. Also, they can't solve a crime to save their lives. They're nothing more than ticket writers that just love to hassle anybody they can. Worst police force I've ever seen. The local Sheriff's department on the other hand is pretty solid.

Are the people in your town doing something about it?

Smack him,club him, but don't...

Shoot him. Cops should know better then that! It's bad for my business!!! Just bring him to me,I'm a corrections officer, I'll watch him. Seriously I'm not going to judge the shooter as I know what some of these people are like once you get them in the prisons. And if your not walkin in that cop's shoes...

Yep, for all we know the guy with the knife was trying to get killed. Waiving a weapon at a cop, or anyone else for that matter, is a stupid thing. Whatever happens as a responce to a threat is fair game.

I am not allways a big fan of law enforcement i have met my share or jerk-off cops,
BUT,

Last I heard was that all law enforcement agencys have to consider a person with a knife just as dangerous as a person with a gun. Both can kill you fast, and if the guy with a knife knows how to use it, he can probably kill you quicker.

If your waving a knife within 25 feet of a cop or an inocent bystander and they tell you to "Drop it!" and you don't, then they have EVERY right to shoot you.

Why in the world should they have to risk their life to as one member said "Club you, or smack you ect.."??

If your told to drop a deadly weapon and you don't, you deserve to be shot.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

If a tazer works, then great, but tazers dont always stop idiots with knives.

Since your sooooo worked up about it, how you get off ur fatt butt from behind your keybord and try to find some crimimal out in the act of lawbreakin' and see if you can stop them??

Oh, wait, what?
Its not your job?

Pretty easy to sit back and judge from behind a keyboard when you weren't there.

Sounds like the gun we paid for worked fine.

Tazer is a risk. Only one shot and it better stick. If the cop chooses anything less than the highest level of force he has available to him he is taking a risk on himself. That is not a choice that anyone can make for him.

It is always easy to say what should have been done, try walking in their shoes for a week and see how tough it really is. Next time you need the help of the police, do us all a favor and don't call.

People have been killing with knifes for thousands of years. If you try to get close enough to club him you could end up dead or permanently maimed. If he took two steps toward me or anyone else he would be a pile of smoking holes. In Seattle many years back bleeding heart liberals where complaining about the police using fire hoses on a man with a sword because it was cold outside. They said it's just a sword rush him and tackle him but they forgot about the officer the previous year that was killed by a man with a sword. Bottom line is if comes down to one of us not going home because you are waving a knife threatening people you can bet your arss it will be you. There’s no since in taking an unnecessary risk and so what they killed him there is no place in society for people like that anyway.

Prayer and bullets...

So one night the daddy and his 14 year old daughter
are walking home from the park nearing sunset. It's not
too far to their little house. But on the walk just ahead
in the twilight a man with a machete jumps ahead of them
and starts swinging the big blade. The little girl, who
is a sunday school student, says to her daddy, "may we
pray for this man daddy?" He says sure darling please do."
But this man is as insane as Arizona's Jason Loughner, and
is not effected by the kindness of their prayers.
So the man takes one step towards them. The daddy says,
'Here sweetheart, take our Kimber Custom 45 and show him
that we are not interested in being wounded, maimed or
killed by that big machete. "Yes sir", was her reply as
she dropped the clip into the dude. Boom, boom, boom,
boom, boom, x ten *(legal Clip) and Chik-chik (Sound of
reloading) then: Boom, BOOM again.
That settles the issue and they strolled on home...

I am a Christian, but i gots to agree with eppler!

The old adage applys: Would you rather have a cop
on the line of your phone, or a gun in your hand?

We in America simply must be allowed to defend our lives
and those of whom we also love. There is much evil
and violence in society. And even if the gov takes
away the protective weaponry of honest Americans, the
crooks won't give their's up...

NUKE um til they glow.

No, we don't have the Castel Doctrine in Nebraska,
but let me warn you: you LEAVE America at the
THRESHOLD of the Kings Palace when you enter my door.
If you enter vertical without invitation, you will
depart horizontal. Nuf sed.

Thanks EPP.

Within 15 feet...

If an assilant is within 15 feet the guy with the knife wins 97 % of the time. As for the Tazer ive seen the times when it DOESN'T work. The tazer has to have certain conditions for optimal operation. Sorry, but if you brandish a knife at me in a threating manner, guess what? I AM GOING HOME to my family after it's over with. I'd rather tried by 12 than carried by 6. I am surprised that some of you think you have ANYTHING LESS THAN A BULLET coming if you are stupid enough to face down a cop with a weapon in your hands or on your person. With a weapon drawn my perception of threat is going to almost as high as if you were charging at me or dumping the clip. You don't have the cop's side of the story here either. From the amount of flak you are throwing up here, I may just be thinking that you might be trying hide something yourself, where did you say you lived again??...

i think i have to agree with machinehead. until a few weeks ago i worked security at an inner-city "safety net" hospital. i carried a sidearm. we got all sorts of crazies, drunks, and gang-bangers on a nightly bases. we are trained to do the same thing..except we used a 21 foot rule. because studies show that anyone within 21 feet of you can lunge before you could draw and fire. besides, why would you risk getting hurt? at the end of the day he is the aggressor with a knife. i have a wife and son, i am not the one waving a knife. so, i don't see any reason why i should not do whatever it takes to home to my family. the day i start brandishing a weapon and threatening people i can blame the people upholding safety for taking me out right?
and one more thing, if the cops had taken him out with physical force, there would be a group of hippies saying that the cops were too violent and that the force was not appropriate for the situation. its a no-win situation if you ask me. so, rather be judged by 12 then carried by six for me.

Absolutely right we can't. We have people move from here regularly just because of the police. They're comical. The problem is they are a major source of income for the city. Every one of them has ticket quotas.
It's not just that they're way overbearing, they're just rude and obnoxious. I can spot one off duty from a country mile. Not to mention they're WAAAAAY overpaid. There is basically zero violence in this town.
Not a ton of bars , but for several years we have been in the top 2 or 3 in the state for DUI's. They're revenuers, nothing more.
Our chief had to resign when it was discovered he's been beating his wife for years, several of his officers were caught harassing exes and their new boyfriends, etc. His kid just got sent to prison for like 10 years for fraud. The best chief we had was a black guy and he got booted when his son got busted selling crack in a local motel.
You see what I'm saying......
