I have a Benzin that is running on E-power..
I used the conversion kit available from East Coast along with a Castle Creations motor and esc....12s and 810mm blades at 1250hs..
I will go over it later on and get you some more of the particulars.... and even will try to get a few pics too...
It flies GREAT on E-power!!!!!!

E-Power Benzin Trainer "Test Bed"

Please excuse the "RATS NEST" wiring in these pics....
This is my test bed Benzin and has had a 2 blade flybar head, a 2 blade flybarless head, a 5 bladed multi, and g-23, and g-230 and now electric.... you will still see the fuel tank, throttle servo, GV-1 governor, airborne battery..... it is all still there so that each test takes very little time for a conversion, BUT it is about to get cleaned up and put into it's final configuration, hopefully over this winter....
This is set up with a Castle Creations 5035-390kv motor, HV80 ESC with castle link, 2-6s 5000 mah 30c batteries, 810mm Vario blades, HS is set at 1200 to 1250... amp draw is between 20-30amps at a 16 lb 14 oz flying weight... I am sure that I could drop at least a pound once I choose the final configuration....
I will be adding this set up to my Jet Ranger soon and that will free up another G-23 engine....
Again, please excuse that RATS NEST, but I promise to clean it up soon.... Stan

I like test mule helicopters. I have many.

So what tooth pulley are you using on the CC motor?

What is the final gear ratio after you take into account the two stage? I always get confused on figuring it out.

Thanks and keep the information coming.

Note: I posted under two user names.

You guys need a Ace One on your Scale ships.

@doorman

Where did you get this motor - isn´t it the same motor as Tim Jones is using in his BEAST?

Motor Info

Not sure what Tim is using.... but I did get it from Castle... I am hearing that it is a prototype.... so not sure if they are going to be available yet or not... I certainly do hope so because I would like to gather up at least one more for my "test" bed heli when I find its new home....
I will be pulling out my info on the Benzin later today hopefully and will be able to supply the info about the pulley and gear ratio... but it is the stock clutch and pulley/belt set up that comes with the Benzin with a 90/18 top gear set up for the 810 blades.....even the adapter is made for 8mm shaft and once that is on, the stock parts stack right back onto the unit.... if you have a higher kv motor then you would need to make changes in the gearing to make things "happy"... as I add the weight of the fuselage mine will be running in the same range that marc28 mentioned at 28 lbs or so....

Hi Stan,

Thanks for the information. Then I think it is the same motor Tim is using. A real Powerhouse.
Do you know the weight of this Motor?

Motor Info

The motor weighs 1lb 8oz (my gram scale would not go that high sorry)

And I also found the final gear ratio for the 90/18 combo and it is 9/1

This motor makes a LOT of power...I do not have the actual specs available now, but do seem to recall that it could make close to 7hp

I do know that in the current configuration, it runs very cool and has no problem with the 17lb machine.... and I was glad to see that marc28 has his 28lb heli flying fine on it... I know my Jet Ranger is going to like it!!!!!!

So is the CC motor a custom order one?

We run the Xera 4035 -300 or 400KV motors on 10 or 12s on all our AP ships in the 20lb range and those motors come down cool to the touch. Sometimes they are hard to find in stock but for the money they are the best out there.

Xera is most popular motor in the AP segment for e-machines.

Let me ask you guys. Are you saying the eBenzine AUW with 12s 5000mah is 17lbs?

Thanks again for all the information.

Motor ???

Hi DJIUSA

The motor from Castle at this point cannot be ordered.. there were some prototypes made and we were able to purchase them on a trail basis.... so right now, not sure if Castle will continue to make them or not... I for one, and I am pretty sure that everyone that has them is hoping that they will continue... it is an outstanding piece of equipment... and as marc28 noted... 7 - 10 hp.... pretty nice range for the large heli and heavy heli's...
The 17lb on the Benzin Trainer is carrying 2- 6cell, 5000mah packs run in series to equal 12s 5000mah....
In some of the larger helis (the 1/4 scale types) there may be 4 or even more 6 cell batteries in a parrellel/series combination if the added MAH's are needed... but a pair of 6's is good for 9+ minutes at that 17lb mark....

If you can't get a Castle Motor what else can you use and what size does the motor shaft have to be for the Vario Conversion Kit.

Motor

So does the Castle ESC work well with the Hyperion motors. Something like the ICE 100? What would the gear ratio be with the gear that comes with the conversion kit. Do you need to run the 810 blades with it?

ESC's

Yes the Castle Creations ESC will work just fine... I run the ICE 80HV on mine for the 12s set up... and I am running the 90/18 gearing so that I can swing the 810 blades, but you can use the Vario gearing and run the 725's if you like. There are no gears in the conversion kit...

Personally, I wouldn't run anything but Kontronik esc's.

I would also give Xera motors a try. They are purpose built for large helis. They really are amazing motors.

My next Benzine kit is on order and it will be a E-version.

If anybody needs a kit let me know.

On the picture on East Coast Heli's it is showing a gear and a plate. Is that a different gear than we are talking about.
