Hi Guys, wondering if anyone can offer a suggestion. I am doing the e12 conversion on my Vibe SG. I have a 450KV Scorpion 5020 running 12S. First step is to pick the pinion gear.

10T pinon - 9.6/1
11T - 8.73-1
12T - 8.0-1

If anyone is running a two speed head setup - hovering 1450-1500 and 2000 for upstairs, please chime in with a recommendation. I am leaning toward the 11 tooth as it looks like I'll have a bit of headroom for governor but won't make running the low headspeed too difficult on the system.

10 tooth would probably be great for hovering but might lack head speed at the end of the flight when I'll need it most.

Dave,
Go with the 11t . That will put the esc around 88-90% @2Krpm, lots of headroom
The esc may trow a fit for the 1450 where it has to run at around 64% but in reality is not bad or too far from the ideal 70% they like for efficiency purpose.
Ideally, you want close to 9.0:1, 8.73:1 is close enough.

Are you running a Castle esc?

I just programmed mine with "the Dr"s help.

For starters, I am runnning 1460, 1870 and 1950. The intermidiate speed is for the turn arounds. We'll see how that works.

I would agree that the 11 T is the way to go given your choices.

The other two choices are really too far on either side of the balance between power and efficiency.

Use a 120HV controller with that motor. It's harder on the ESC, esp in hover, than the 4035 series motors.

Hey Dave, you can also use 98T main gear which will give you 8.91 which sounds better for F3C on 450KV motor.

Bingo!

If the mesh adjustment allows it, that would be the way to go.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I did use the 11T. Looks like a quick search for the 98T main gear and I'll have one of those too.

I'll keep you posted on progress - planning to fly this weekend - for some reason the sun is going down before I get home from work.

Many thanks,

Dave

Chago, that model has adjustable mesh. He can set it to whatever mesh the gearing choice requires.

The weather in CT, at least outside, bears little relationship to anything hospitable for test flying, but I'm very interested to hear about your new model. Pics!!!!!

Couldn't resist ran home for lunch for a test flight. Flies nice but has a small tail wag. Will adjust gain/investigate. Took a guess on head speed. Can't run the skytach and fly at the same time, need a helper. Will tweak everything this weekend.

I'll post pics soon - heading back to work!

Weather wasn't bad. Nearly 45 today. Of course it might be colder and enthusiasm just made it feel warm.

i recently did two e12 conversion's and i found that with the softer stock dampeners and the rotor tech blades. it hovered the best at just over 1500rpm. gy 611 on the tail with an 8900g servo.

on the other it is running the radix f3c blades at the same rpm and its not quite as smooth as the other but the head had only been hovered once by myself as just a system test.

i dropped them off to the owner yesterday after noon and he seemed very pleased.

Who cares... its just money...

Gorgin - No idea was hoping to order it through Horizon I guess. At the moment I have the 96T in there. What's a few teeth

Trev - I've got the Rotortech 720's and the Rotortech paddles on it now. I competed at Nats last year with the Radix FAI blades though and they worked pretty well too. I wish I had two identical ships then I could make a real comparison flying back to back.

All - Here are two photos of my helicopter. Seems the Hatori and OS stickers no longer make sense . I have a new canopy just waiting on some E12 Stickers to make it look more official. Until then, it will be an E12-Nitro conversion.
