Flying a 550 blade heli is much better than flying a 425 blade heli.

trex 550 have better parts support, and have mature through several generation of trexes design. they also have good resale value just incase you have a remorse.

T550 all the way. Have you seen a T550 kit. It is a very impressive design.

I just finished building a Trex 550 after having a 450 and a 500. The 550 is a sweet machine. I did not like all the stories of stripped TT gears with seemingly minor tail to grass strikes. I have never had a bit of trouble with belts so I converted the 550 to belt drive tail. I tipped it over in grass the first attempt to lift off and totally destroyed both tail blades. No other damage (-:

Did Align ever get the belt drive kits on the market? I know they were working on it but I haven’t seen then on dealer’s shelves. That would definitely make it a much more durable and reliable helicopter.

This makes it much more efficient. If your belt snaps you did something seriously wrong.... I'd take belt over TT anyday.

I found a post on HF with the three Align part numbers needed to convert to belt. I don't have them now. Tail housing-belt-tail drive gear/sprocket. I think the belt is unique to the 550 and the other two are 600 parts.

Belt drive... You would have to never look at your heli for it to snap in flight... That's like saying if your gear goes your screwed also

I had a 550 and it's a awesome heli but a protos is compared to a t500, not a 550

sitting here laughing at the "amazement of ingenuity" when the torque tube came out and now people are converting to belts. I think this could be an even steven if the unsuspecting belt flyers could be convinced to take the "Fantastic" TT's for a swap of their belts. Kidding, my wierd sense of humor.

Hi, I'm new...

Yes an apples to oranges comparison to be sure! But not really a question on which is better, just a can't decieded... At this point I would get the MSH I have quite a few Align helis, and I love them, but the Protos is an awesome little machine, worthy of a try.

I'll never understand how statements like this can be made unless the pilot has owned and flown BOTH helis.

But to the OP,these are 2 different classes of heli and are going to have a completely different feel no matter who the manufacturer. What is your main flying area?If you have the room, bigger helis are nice.As said, there is a HUGE difference between 425mm and 550mm.

i do have the 550E fbl and i had the protos, but i sold it becouse after buying many upgrade parts for it (like some metal parts since the protos is just made out of plastic),it never flew as good as the t rex 500. now the t rex 550E is a very good heli,it isn't that big ,i can fly it at the park or at the field, but it flies like a bigger heli ,i love it

The 500 uses 425mm blades same as protos, 550 uses 525-550mm blades...
