Stupid injury...

Something stupid happened today... just shows, even after 20 years RC heli, no one is immune.

Nothing serious luckily, just a little painful.

I landed the 700E and rushed a little to stop the blades (it was starting to rain) but got a little close with my tibia (lower half of the leg) and BANG the blade hit me, it wasn't going that fast, and on the moment it didn't hurt that much, it's now, 6 hours later that the pain is growing...

I think this is partly due to the fact that 700 size is new to me, I'd always had (until 2 months ago) 550 and 600 blades, this extra length is enough to get me wrong, I'd already noticed this when messing spinning the blades by hand, I'm forever hitting myself with them when doing this, and this never happens with the 600.

So... be careful, especially if in a rush and with a larger heli than usual.

I have my throttle hold curve liner that way with the throttle at full low I have full neg on the blades and that slows them down rather quickly but I can still see rushing in to stop them to beat the rain. Sorry to hear about your accident. Take care and safe flying.

In fact I was at TH (I auto'ed to land quick) and I had hit minimum pitch (-11)... but I rushed too much and was careless... anyway, got some stuff put on the injury and it's feeling better now, but swelling quite a little.

Amazing how much energy is stored in those blades I have a friend that has a raptor 60 with a sprung clutch I helped him start it one time and I forgot the glow driver so the blades had made a couple of turns at low rpm and I just tried to stop them. that was a lesson learned even at a very low rpm it bruised my hand pretty bad.

Been there, done that with 720mm blades. Took the head button off so I'm not tempted.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Here's one for ya. My gf's ex boyfirend - daughter's father - was drunk on New Years Eve. He decided to lite some half sticks of dynamite with his buddies. Forgot to throw it n blew his first two fingers on his right hand off!! Fukin dipsh!t. My gf's sad, I'm laughing :-)

Not saying my heli buddies here are dipsh!t's :-) lol I've done my share of things rushing to beat something. Hell, I was rushing to the field on a great day. Stepped on my tx - x9303 - n bent the gear switch :-( Still worked but I was pissed. Sent it in and horizon fixed it for free :-) Those guys are great!!

Just had to share the dipsh!t story :-)

Glad you brought this up. I also am used to doing this on the 600 with just enough room to stop the blades from spinning. But on the 700 I will have to get this bad habit remedied .

Got to have my cup of heli in the morning.

A head button on a 700 seems almost like someone's wicked joke

I wonder how many shins fall victim to it?

I get just barely close enough on my 600 also.

I am 6'2" and dont have any problems reaching in for my 710 blades but i should remember to not wear my work ID on my neck when stopping the blades.

i got a bad habbit of slowing down the last seconds of inertia by giving the tail crown gears a pinch with my index finger and thumb(lightly). last flight i grabbed a little too early and a little too far to the outside and i got a friction burn cut.

Hmm, aside from that "hurry" and "heli" may sound poetic together but don't mix well, I almost always let my blades spool down (de-spool?) all the way to a natural stop, with neutral or only slightly negative pitch. To me it's just real pleasing to watch and I don't get tired of it. And as with most any complex machine, something that's not quite right, say a failing bearing or such, may reveal itself during the last slow turns.

Nice mellow high-tech paddling around is my favorite thing to do!

Yeah, and always do an auto when you land, even if from a few feet! I hear its a good habit to get into! Also helps you get used to using that switch as an Oh $hit switch!!

Totally agree, except when raining !

Something new I've become conscious of lately, and probably more dangerous, is that since I've been flying EP I'm sometimes flying much too close to myself, despite the fact that my EPs (600 and 700 blades) are bigger than my NPs were (550 blades).

NPs are impressive with the sound/smoke/vibrations... you really tend to keep them away (15 meters or so).

EPs are so smooth, silent that you get a confident feel and you tend to get them closer (I realised as close a 4 meters or so).

Of course, this is real dangerous, and since I'm conscious of it now I really pay attention to keep it far away. Maybe I'll get my NPs out again to keep the good habits!
