Where does everyone fly? I know about Black Star, Tarabuco Canyon Flyers and OCRCC. I am a member of OCRCC but no one flies helis. I need flying buddies who are local. Please let me know where you fly so I can fly with you guys or please come to OCRCC at the Great Park and join so we can fly....

Big area

Yes, I'm sure there's got to be some place closer. You could check with the guys at Carson they know all the fields in the area.

I don't know any heli flyers in irvine...nearest is fairview park in costa mesa or arbor in seal beach/los alamitos.

We have a fairly steady group of folks at fairview park...

have you found any good spots in Irvine? I fly a 600n and my buddy flies a 600e. We usually fly every day or every other day whether it be fixed wing or helis. Let me know if you find any places that are good for nitro or if you want to fly sometime with us.

don't cry it makes you look ugly...

I couldn't find anywhere to fly nitros so I sold all of my nitro hels..... I have a few electrics and fly at OCRCC at the Great Park on the weekends. You guys can fly there too but need AMA as it a sanctioned club.

I'm in fountain valley. I like arbor park but wish it was a sanctioned field. And Irvine lake is so far. What do?

OCRCC is off of the 5 fwy and Sand Canyon. Its a sanctioned AMA club. I think its the same club that ran Mile Sq Pk back in the days.

Pretty crazy there is nothing between Arbor Park and OCRCC.

That is a lot of real estate.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

I joined OCRCC and have flown there a few times. They have put the helis off to one side and after about noon you are staring right into the sun. You cannot go very far to the right due to the main runway, big NO-NO to cross over their center line. Big tree in front and a building not too far out. Over all pretty cramped for anything except in your face flying, which I really don't do. They frown on helis off the main runway. They are afraid of them coming into the pits. I've seen more than one plane go into the pits, but that's different!!

OCMA (Black Starr) is more open and at least there you can fly off the main runway if you want to fly big air flying. In the afternoon there are very few people there so it works. OCMA is costly however.

We still fly off a field on Bake Parkway just before the 241 tollroad, but Shea homes will be building there before too long. Maybe another year or so, if that. But it is an immense area, very flat, very little vegetation and good for nitro and electric.

Other than that not much around south county. Fairview Park is a very small area with a walking path right out in front of the heli area. Personally I will not fly there. Accident looking for a place to happen in my opinion.

I have a buddy out in Moreno Valley and I go out there every so often 1 hour drive but they have a HUGE flying area. The sun at your back all day long and it is a great place. Just off the 60 Freeway at Theodore. Go about 1/4 mile east on Euclyptus. Good group of guys there.

I need to try out Arbor, but it is a 45 minute drive in weekend traffic, so I may as well go out to Moreno Valley!!

I guess the 405 does get a little busy on the weekends doesn't it.

At Arbor Park the sun is to your back all day.
It is a very large grass field.
You back your car up to some short polls sticking out of the ground and then step down over a small concrete run-off ditch out onto the grass.

As you saw in my other thread Fairway Park is not an option for me.
It is not for helicopters.

I have only flown at Arbor late in the day during the week.

I think there are soccer games there on Saturdays.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

lol

Its not as bad as Phaedrus made it out to be... He is right about the sun but that all depends what time of the day you fly... That is my biggest complaint as well but I fly in the mornings so its not as bad. The field is moving across the street and we will have our section again with the sun behind us. As far as the building goes and the tree... well its pretty far off in the distance. I fly big as well as small and I have no issues.

Anyway, I started this thread since I am by myself most of the time and was hoping to find some flying buddies. I originally flew in Ontario off 7th street. Great place and great guys there but its a drive...

I've been to Bake... i just don't like leaving my stuff in the parking lot while i fly. I can't see it when i go over that tiny hill to get to the flying site.

Not good. I like to keep my stuff in sight too.

Ontario would be a bit of a drive for you wouldn't it.

I guess it is Arbor Park for me on Sundays when I fly on the weekends.

Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

I guess I just like more room.

I had not heard the field was moving. That might be a good thing. I fly off the main runway sometime when nobody else is there. But afternoon the sun is right in your eyes. I miss the OCMA location. It was a great place.
