For the last few years I have competed in the scale contest at E-Fest. E-Fest is an event that Frank Noll puts on as well as a ton of great sponsors. And the best part its only a few miles from my home.

Anyway.. The first year I competed it was with a 30" GB model Y.. The plane did place in the top 10.
Last year it was my OH-6.. 7th place.
This year it’s what I hope to be the winner. A 1967 UH-1 Huey Gunship.

See Pic

The new heli is again based on an AXE 400 chassis and the body is a HeliArtist.

The heil is modeled after the typical 1967 Huey heli used at Fort Rucker for training purposes.

It features:
Futaba 7-C radio
Opening engine bay doors
And the coolest part.. My mechanical option…

The soldier tosses the rope.. and yep.. he then replies down the rope.

WANT TO WATCH IT FLY?

Tune in to Metime Live RC and watch the event FOR FREE and wish me luck.

O yea.. your also going to see some SICK flying.

Im am realy going to try to win this thing this time.. we need a heli on top!

Cool. That's a lot of detail in such a small heli.

All helis and planes have an expiration date stamped on them...you only find it after you crash!!

Joel,

Thanks for chiming in. The Heli I am modeling does not seem to have those things you pointed out?

Here is a pic of the real one.

Differences UH-1B vs UH-1C/M

Their are suttle differences between the two pics of the UH-1's.
Joel's photo is of a HOG origionaly a UH-1B with 2ea 24 tube (2.75mm Rocket) pods.

The other photo is of a UH-1C/M and you can tell by the Vertical fin which has a concave twist and the Rotor Head which is a 540 and sported wider cord blades. This MR Head is the same head as the AH-1 series acft, major difference was the elimination of the flybar

The C/M model was developed primaraly because the B Model had a terrible time getting off the ground during High DA days. We would run through and change out the skid shoes almost every other day.

Both would be great canidates for building.
Hope this helps answer the questions...

Update (HELP PLEASE)

Scale Pilots,

Test flights did not go all that well. With the front cowl on the machine develops some type of real bad harmonic, with the cowl off its fine.

I suspect the head dampening needs to stay loaded at all times. With the cowl off the CG is aft of the main shaft.

The head speed although not checked is lower then I fly my 3D machine and its about the same as my OH-6.

Any help would be great

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your help

I have some dense pool noodle between the chassis and the body behind the main shaft. I have no support between the forward canopy and the chassis.

I did however "Clip" the canopy in place using small paper spring clips. You know the small black ones with the pivoting wire grips, holding the lower and upper half’s together.. Just some added insurance.. I do this on my OH-6 and it works well.

Should I make the body ridged to the chassis?

Thanks again

Yes you need to attach the upper fuselage to the mechanics or you will get ressonance vibration issues as you have found out. Can you post pictures of what you have now for support? You might want to add some addition formers to the fuselage if it is flexing too much.

you absolutely have to have that fuse so it can't move separate from the mechanics... this will create exactly what you are expperiencing!
figure out a way to attach the uppr body to the frame and all should be well.

BTW, great job on that lil guy!!
