Stop thinking. Do!

Buy it. Build it. Fly it. Tons of power, handles great. I'm using Turnigy 4500 mah 6S 30-40C packs, and love it. My ESC smoked after about a dozen flights, now I'm using a Castle Phoenix ICE 100.

You will have a smile on your face all day after flying a 550 FBL

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

How will I argue with the feedback you guys have given. This afternoon, I picked up my TREX 550 FBL combo from the local hobby shop. Thank you very much to everyone that took time to give me their opinion. Happy New Year to everyone.

Finally put together. I'm impress on how this bird is designed. My first time to set up a FBL heli. A little nervous at the same time excited. Although some friend volunteer to help but I'd rather do it first. Will post picture next time. Later.

The 550e 3g flys awsome. It has good power to weight, and if you get the usb programmer for the 3g you can really tweak out the 3g!

I got my 550 3G flying last weekend. Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it. Flies like my 600N, but more power!

Hopefully I set this up correctly, otherwise, it will be disasterous. I'll try it this weekend, weather permitting. Wish me luck!!!

Which method is better for the ESC setup for the 550E. Airplane mode with a flat throttle curve or governor mode. Do you recommend soft start.

What gain settings are recommended for the 3G unit for first flight setup.

Just use the default settings that come with the 550 ESC. Works fine.

I have never liked flat throttle curves. They really waist a lit of energy. Start with the throttle curves in the manual, add little swash mix and adjust to your own liking. Flat curves are for those too lazy to find tune their own curves.

If you have an ICE ESC it’s really easy to tune throttle curves because the data log will show you what the headspeed is doing during flight.

Flat throttle curves don't necessarily waste energy. An improperly chosen "curve" can really heat up your ESC and motor, and that heat IS where the excess energy goes, not into turning the motor. Electric motors are quite different than internal combustion when it comes to throttling. A flat curve works quite well, keeps the motor in an efficient region of operation, and no, you're not lazy if you use a flat curve.

The governor mode of many ESCs doesn't really do good job of maintaining head speed, and can cause more headaches than they're worth.
