I know this has been talked about to death, but I am going to update my 700's with the usb software. they are doing fine except for the slight tail wag. Is there anything I need to watch out for after the update? It will be flyable after the update? What do I need to get into to work on the tail wag? I just dont want to update them and have more problems. I read that it would be more sensitive Any help is appreciated

The tail wag

I would highly recommend version 2.1.

You can fix the tail wag with the USB connection. Mine had the tail wag. To fix it, I dropped the tail lock gain to 50, it was set to 70? and that is way to high.

More sensitive? Not sure where that is coming from. My 3G was hot out of the box. I found myself doing crack moves, because I was shaking so much, and those inputs were effecting the servos. Solution: I set the expo to 2 in the software. Now it is awesome.

Good luck.

Hey.

I found on all my models after upgrading to V2.1 the tail gyro gain needed to be reduced in the Tx. considerably from previous firmware. To balance it out a bit I took about 15~20% off this setting in the PC software so as to allow me to run my gains with ATV values of around 45%.

Otherwise the upgrade went perfectly. I had an original V1 3G which was flying well on my 700N so I left it alone. I then switched to a 700E and transfered all the same FBL gear, again left at V1 until recently when I decided to give V2.1 a go on this model as it was going well on my 450 PRO and 550E.
Well it's going even better now!

I am hoping that I just can lower the tail lock gain and be done with it. They are flying really well except for that. With the software update it seems like a endless amount of things to change around. I like simple at my house! Ha

Hey Mike.

What firmware you currently running?
V1 isn't changable through the PC, hence why I left mine alone for so long as it was flying well anyway. V2 and upwards you can lower the lock gain, but then for the small amount of time you'll spend dialling it in if your'e on V2 you might as well upgrade to V2.1.

It's the v2. Do most people just leave the y cable plugged in or put the regular one back on. Seems like it would be better to leave it in maybe?

I leave mine in and tie down the loose end. I have gone back and tweaked a few settings dialing stuff in. Now that I have the 600N and 700N pretty much figured out I may replace with a short cable.
You will want to read the whole modification thread from Leon Luke.

Ok...thanks for the info. That's what I will do. There are so many pages in the 3G threads it gets difficult to find some specific things.

Another issue which arguably is related to the "fix" is that the 3G's sensor is so light making it susceptible to higher frequency vibrations.

I'm not so sure that the "fix" is so effective from securing the sensors as it is for adding some weight to it. By siliconing two Align metal plates to the bottom of it and using one Align mounting pad I've found that all gremlins have gone away and I can turn the gains up quite high.

You might want to try that as well as doing "the Fix".

got a few flights in today after the usb upgrade. All I can say is WOW!! what a difference!! It flew good before the upgrade but now its awesome. went with Leon Luke's settings, just had to drop the rudder lock gain a bit, but other than that its great. I am very happy now.
