Hi all, I've been having a problem with my trex 450 sport for the last few weeks. It all started when I was hovering about 8 feet from the floor, when suddenly the heli just dropped. All I heard was the ESC re initialize after it hit the floor. after replacing blades and main shaft, It flew just fine But It has some kind of a tail twitch resulting from some kind of interference every once in awhile. I tried with a different rx and did the same, 4 different batteries and still the same. put a new ESC but I still get the same thing. It hasn't drop from mid air again but something is wrong. Usually
it happens when It spools up right before take off.

Any ideas, experiences or suggestions?, I really need help to solve this problem.

What radio are you running? Is it a belt drive tail? what is the condition of your battery? are you using a BEC, or the built-in BEC in the speed control?

Have you tried reprogramming the ESC?

Sounds like a loose belt. Direct forward (toward the nose) of the 4 bolts that hold in the tail boom there is a window to check the belt tension. You shouldn't be able to push the belt from one side to touch the other side. If that didn't do it I'd check

1) Belt damage
2) Gyro mounting
3) damage to one of the tail "drive" gears.

Cold solder joints will cause loss of power to components sporadically. Check that your leads are properly soldered going from battery to ESC. Votage variation can cause pulses in the system that will wreck havoc on your tail gyro.

High Voltage just works better

+1 Rogman88. I had done a poor soldering job on one of my first ESC's and had the same problem. If you still cant figure it out go down to your local hobby shop. I had visited Aero Hobbies once many years ago. They seemed to be a pretty decent heli shop. They should be able to look at your heli and give you some help. They are located at:
2305 S. HWY 121 suite 110 Lewisville, Texas 75067 Store: (972) 315-1854

If you cant make it there...check your local flying field. Heli pilots always want to help out fellow pilots!

motor esc comparison

make sure you speed controller can handle the the energy your motor is looking for

example} a 4400 kv scorpion motor using a 25 to 30 amp esc will shut the esc down until it cool down

make sure the motor is good and the esc have no fault

make sure the esc timing is right for that motor

check the manual for the esc

I was waiting on some honey but there aren't no Queen bee,

Hi and thank you all for your suggestions.
Helinerd, I'm using a spektrum dx7, it's belt drive tail, I have tried 4 different batteries all well charged and balanced, and to rule out a problem with the ESC I did disconect the red wire and installed a stand alone BEC. I still have the problem.

Noobyflier, After the BEC, I replaced the ESC with a new CC Phoenix 45, did the programming and still have the problem.

Lowanslow, the belt is ok. but Im gonna check the gyro mounting.

Rogman88 that makes a lot of sense because the problem is some kind of a power failure. I will check on that and see if it works.

Grim.the.grim, that's where I got the heli from. I'll keep it as the last resource.

es1co2bar3, I had stock motor and ESC when all started, now I have stock motor and CC Phoenix 45 which handles that motor just fine.

Only thing left that I can see. Brown outs are common with spectrum but you've tried a couple of recievers....hmmmm...

Could it be the static build up issue? Try silicon lube on the tail belt.

Are all of the teeth still on the belt?

Also, what is the condition of your batteries?

Re-solder all of your connections just to be sure. I hope you get this fixed!!!!

After resolder all connectors, I lost power again. Then one of the local pilots told me to look for bad bearings because they could create static too. So I found one bad bearing in one of the main shaft support plates and also put silicon oil in the belt. After about 10 flights no problem, I got my 450 back in the air.

Now, since I replaced the bearing and silicon oiled the belt at the same time, I don't know what the solution was, anyway, Thanks to all of you for your tips.
