O.K. I am on my last straw, I hve a older heli, GPH, it is totally upgraded, carbon frames metal everyithing, tube driven tail, I am blowing out main gears, I have replaced the slipper clutch tail drive unit, thinking there had been some slop developed over time, first flight after I replaced that I stipped another main gear, at 60 bucks this is begining to suck, it is only taking out one or two teeth? like it is chipping them off, nothing in the drive system, no dirt or debree of an kind, it has to be something with the over all flexing of the frame, has there been any fixes for such a problem ever discussed? I have done some searches and came up with open ended links, Please help I am lost and don't know where to look!

Bent frame?

Maybe an engine mount that is bent. Definately sounds like the bell is out of alingment with the main gear.
Also check to make sure nothing is binding in the autohub or tail drive.

If you've got the OS 46 in with a tuned pipe that goes up and away from the motor it maybe that on spoolup the motor goes rich, then backfires and takes the teeth out. I had it happen a couple of times on my GPH before I figured out that the motor sometimes was too rich in the crossover point.

Another point to remember is that it is a moulded gear and has STRESS moulded into it, This can be removed by slowly boiling the gear in a pan of water for about 15-20 mins. Make sure the gear does not get to hot on the bottom of the pan ! This will help to de-stress the gear, and give it some extra life. It is a common problem for gears, which are expected to operate in a higher stressed area than which they where designed for.

Hi Chad
Did you find any solution on your main gear stripping problem ?
I just found your link after my second gear stripped today on my GPH.
This is a known problem with the GPH´s original moulded main gear.

I know that there is a heavy duty CNC manufactured main gear for the GPH. Part no : 402-591, SE MAIN GEAR (77T)
But it is more expensive, around 30 $

Hi

Yep. Kalle, go and get the delrin gear.

Cannot post on http://www.smhf.se anymore, since people always bash each other on that forum.

I have a delrin gearset for my Sceadu EVO and its fantastic. There must be someting similar for the GPH.

Also, check your frame and make sure it does not flex too much. That was one of the problems with the original Sceadu. I never had that problem though since I got the delrin gears from the beginning + the 3rd bearing for the frame.

I had a similar problem with my GPH. I started to keep spare gears in my flight box.
Thought it was possibly down to mainframe alignment or flex - the mainshaft shifting in the sideframes. Anyway, my problem went away when I got a mid-air boom strike, model destroyed it's self and was reborn as a Sceadu - works great now!

I looked at some part drawings of the GPH and it looked like it didnt uses a 3rd bearing (below the maingear) like her big sisters Sceadu and Freya

The GPH doesn´t have any third bottom gear, but the metal frame is very rigid.
The CNC option gear is of Delrin, probably the same material as the Sceadu Delrin gear.
I will probably get this option gear, even if its expensive.

The GPH main gear is identical with main gear for the smaller Shuttle.
I think that the power of a .46-.50 engine is to much for this small gear.

Main Gear

Hi,

Only if you've had a crash; then I'd dial indicate the crank shaft on your motor. I've seen the cranks bend in a hard crash a people spending a lot of time trying to find the problem.

If you find out what's causing the problem would you mind posting it?

I have found my problem

I got down and tore it down the other day, Well it is due to a bent clutch shaft, I have never dorked this thing, so I am pretty currious on how this has happened, but never the less this is the problem, So for all of those who are experiencing the random gear stripping, it might be the clutch shaft(the one that the starter staft ataches to) Maby I bent it starting it some how? But now it is on to where to find the part, I am running arroung the house trying to find my manual, but no luck, so maby someone could lead me in the right direction in finding some parts for this thing. I need a new main gear and clutch (as the shaft is part of the clutch) thanks for all that have helped, ya'll are the reason I looked deeped and tore it down, I knew there had to be a mechanical reason for the stripping, By the way when this thing is flying right, it is a bad a@@ mama gama. I loved it just been sitting arround for to long, So help me find some parts so she can go again, thanks again guys
