Two weeks ago I traded my 27% Extra 300L airplane for Bergen Intrepid Gasser. I've wanted to get a heli for over a year now but with very few persons flying them at the local club I opted to wait until I could find some help. That help came when a new neighbor moved in two doors down. Upon getting to know the new neighbor I realized he was into RC and more specifically helicopters. It didn't take but one trip to the field with him to realize now was the time for me to get one. I really didn't have the funds to buy one out right so I posted my Extra for trade and within one week I had a heli of equal value in my garage.

During my first attempts of hovering the new heli my many hours on G2 really shined through. "I was doing it and doing it very well", my neighbor said. It wasn't long before I began some side to side and front to back movements. This past Wednesday, just 10 days into it, I moved into forward flight. I can't remember the last time my knees were knocking so hard but after a couple of minutes I returned it to the ground and regrouped myself. Yesterday I was back at it and this time forward flight felt much more comfortable after doing my homework on G2. I felt so comfortable I suprised my neighbor by doing my first heli loop.

So what's next... other than getting more comfortable with the machine what else should I be working on to improve my skills? I'm loving every minute of my flying time but want to make the best of it also. Unlike with my big Extra I'm getting out to fly the heli almost every other day. I was lucky to get my Extra in the air once a week. Gotta love the local park...

Congratulations!! I flew scale planes for 20yrs and all I fly is helicopters now. One of the things I like about helis is you can just grab the heli and go, but with big airplanes its a big deal getting ready and then setup at the field.
I would work on stuff like nose in hovering then maybe flips and rolls. Now you have to convert all your airplane friends over to helis.
