Looks nice Jeff! I think I see it in one of the pictures, but make sure you have foam behind the gas tank so the gas tank does not vibrate a lot. I believe you have it, but hard to tell. Cant wait to see it fly. I really like mine, but I only had a 46 and it wasnt enough power, I have flown some with a 55 on it and it is a blast!

kevin, the foam thing won't carry much weight around here. tanks on helis are hard mounted on to the frames and the engines run just fine. not going to be any different on an airplane.

jeff...plane looks sweeeeet. nice job!!

Thx fellas. This was my first time "building" a plane; and even tho it was an ARF I still discovered there was a bit of a learning curve so I took it slooooooow. That said, I could see the OMP quality throughout in the fit & finish, etc. A tad pricey perhaps at $190, but we're back to that 'get what you pay for' thing again.

Kevin you did a good job w/ the Mojo 25 (RIP), so if weather permits & you're still in town I'd like you to do the maiden & get her trimmed out.

I'm running into a setup issue with mine.

Setting up the Ailerons using the DuBro HD horns. Cant get the one servo 90. On one side its perfect with no subtrim, the other needs almost 30 points to square up, thats too much for my liking.

Any suggestions?

I got it.

Went with the double horns on the ailerons instead of the singles. This way I could rotate them 180 deg to so no subtrim.

Actually not putting foam behind a fuel tank can cause issues according what airframe and engine your dealing with. For example a YS110 is a violent engine for any profile plane due to its vibrations and it can cause a disturbance in fuel flow causing the engine to run different all the time. 4 Stroke engines tend to vibrate a little more and if you have a thin fuse the vibrations can cause the engine not to run or perform right.... Speaking from experience.... lol

Yep OMP recommended foam behind the tank, so I put it in...zip ties are not super-tight so as to let the foam work

DX7 flaperon programming....anybody figger this out???

Whenever I am out at the field this week again I can try to figure it out. Do you want to just flip a switch and the ailerons go down, or do you want to have a mix so when you give it up elevator the ailerons go down?

this is one of those "huh?" moments.

jeff, my two cents is that you don't worry about the mixes right now. just fly the airplane and figure out how it feels. it will 3d just fine without flaperons. make sure that you have a good transition to from idle to high speed. and have fun...

Koppter, that's what I'm aiming to do. It's just that when I see another option......

I actually want to program in some flaperons just to see how slow the landing approach/harrier can be...I'm sure there's a use for them (and elevons) for 3D but that wasn't my original goal

So......if anybody knows the DX7 flaperon programming, pls lmk...thx

Kevin,

What I'm trying to do is:

The DX7 (heli ver) has the 3-psn "norm-ST1-ST2" switch on the top left that we all use for the heli's. Switch down (or fwd), no flaperons. Switch back one click (=ST1), that should add the 1st flaperon angle- both ails do down, but still move opposite for steering. Switch back two (=ST2) both ails go down further for harrier landings, etc

I can get the left ail to do this, but the right ail does not move.

If you have the ailerons on channels 2 and 6 you have to slave channel 6 to 2. Not sure about the dx7, but on my futaba you have to slave them in the conditions also. If you don't only the one on channel 2 will work.

Jeff, I think I got what your are asking, working.

Have you played around with the [flap system] menu in the dx7?
In
Normal, set the flaps to 0
Mid set to a desired rate - for ex. 25 UP.
Land set to a higher desired rate - for ex. 50 UP.

I tried it on mine and it works fine. Also, ensure that in your 'input select' menu, make sure flaperons are 'on' and in the submenu make sure that your flap trim is 'act'.

Rick

ps: I have my electronics plugged into a 6ch 6100E rx for setup.

LW into AILE
RW into AUX1

Made a quick video to show you what I was talking about. Only one issue in the video I said that Mid and Landing (which are Idle 1 and 2) I said the number should be 25/60 down, this should be Up. I switched it while the video was uploading and it worked correctly.

S76, Bingo!! I got flaperons!! Thx buddy for all the help and info

I'm not sure how or why, but it works!

Ok here's my DX7 (heli ver, of course) settings:

In setup menu:

INPUT SELECT-
AUX 2 INH
AUX 2 TRIM INH
FLAP: SYSTEM
FLAP TRIM: ACT
FLAPERON ON

In the Programming menu:
FLAP SYS NORM
NORM 0%
MID UP 30%
LAND UP 55%
AUTO INH
Note: in this screen, all ELEV values stay zero

DIFFERENTIAL (anybody know what this is or what it does??)
NORM 0%

PROG MIXES 1-4, ALL INH

PROG MIX 5:
AIL> AUX 2 ON
RATE: +110% (I think this sets the AIL ATVs)
+110%
SW: ON
OFFSET: 0

PROG MIX 6, INH

In the TRAVEL ADJUST menu,
the AIL values are set to L 110% & R 110%, to match the rate values in Prog Mix 5 above.

DISCLAIMER: These are my specific model settings and are meant as a GUIDELINE ONLY for anyone trying a similar setup>>>do not use unless/until you're certain they're correct for your model!!!!!!!

Anyway, SCHWING!!!! cool to have flaperons...can wait to try em out!

The LAST THING I'd like to figure out is how to program in an engine-kill function by flicking the Gear switch, iso using the TH trim down on the Tx. I have this on my 600N and it's nice to be able to shut off the engine w/o having to monkey with the TH trim.

thx again for the tips, fellas.

cheers
Jeff

i was setting up my new suhkoi tonight and decided to play with the elevator/ flap function of the DX 7. it's actually very easy.

all flap functions are inhibited. the airplane must use two wing servos and the sub menu must be set to "flaperons"

there is a single "elev to flap" mix that creates flaps that move with the elevator. when in the mix you set the direction and throw. you have a choice of switch locations to activate the function. that's it....!!

differential is used in some airplanes and many sailplanes to allow more up travel than down on ailerons. the reason is that a deflected down aileron may greater drag can cause the plane to yaw (or stall) when pure aileron is applied. pattern and imac guys spend a lot of time determining if their plane needs it, and if so, how much. the test is to fly away from yourself at a 45 degree angle and then bang the ailerons. if the plane wanders durinig the roll, it needs differential. it's pretty much a non issue with profile planes.

throttle kill is gear to throttle mix. at one position it should close the carb slightly. you can also use a throttle to throttle mix and assign the switch.
