When I bought my R60, Helproz set me up with a good setup I think, however I feel that the Mav muffler is a little too loud sounding, and I would like to move to something quieter, without sacrificing(or better yet, improving) the performance of the engine. I am running an OS61, any suggestions appreciated.

I always felt the mav's that I've used are pretty quiet. The problem with 61's is they rev relatively high, so, more revs=more noise. I had a hatori sb70 on my os and I though it was louder than the mav. Deflectors help a bit. Big motors with tall gears help the most though

My ears have always 'buzzed' a bit with too loud of volumes, my current setup with the OS61 and Maverick muffler makes my eardrums rattle. But my buddies YS91 is so quiet in comparison. He said what you said, the bigger engines with bigger pipes/mufflers are just quieter due to the way they run and the size of the pipes/mufflers.

My other option is to upgrade the motor, but then it would kill my helo fund to buy the motor and upgrade kit (although not beyond possibility ) Is it possible to install a OS or YS 91 in a 60 kit, and just rtun it below full power, or is the power band of the 91s too far out of range to do that?

I have two options; one of which is to blow my entire available funds at one shot and skip bills go for 90 with the 90 upgrade kit, or to buy the 90 when order the new parts, and then upgrade the rest of the heli 2 or 4 weeks from now and install the 90.

You might consider a YS 80, you can still use the 680 blades and all you would have to do is change the gear ratio to 8.4 or 8.5. The 80 is a little bit cheaper than the 90. the muscle pipe 2 works great with the 80 and is very quiet.

YS80's are hard to come by these days. If you're going to spend the money to regear it, you might as well just do it once and go for the 90 gearing. Don't try to run a 90 on 60 gearing 'cause it'll just overrev your new motor and blow it up. Just wait til you can get everything and do it all at once.

Problem is, with the 91 he will have to buy longer blades, boom, driveshaft, and gears. With the 80,which by the way is about the same price as an OS70 he only need to change the gear ratio and muffler which is not too expensive. The muscle pipe is cheap at about $105 and is really quiet. Looks like he do the 80 for about $400. The 91 conversion would be in the $550-$600 range. DOUG
