Hello,
I was taking off of a road and practicing some low level (3ft) autos and just checking things over. I was doing this for about 5-10 minutes before I noticed that I was kicking up a lot of fine sand granules. I still did not know the full extent of how much sand had gotten to my heli until I was cleaning it last night. Sand, dust and dirt is everywhere! I have dissassembled much of the helicopter and cleaned it. However, I noticed that I can see where dust and sand has collected around the carb intake. I assume the engine sucked some in.
1. Did it hurt the engine? When I stopped flying all seemed ok.
2. Should I try to flush the engine out?
3. Should I flush the carb out?
4. Should I dissassemble the engine and clean it?
Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

Just clean the intake of the carb with any wet cloth or cotton etc., taking apart the engine would be a waste of time since it cleans itself as you run it, any damage will have already been done. Just run the engine and if it seems fine, it probably is although you may have shortened its life a bit.

Taking apart the heli is definately a good idea, make sure you clean all of the ball links to avoid premature wear. As for the rest of the heli, you can spray it down with de-natured alcohol and blow it off with an air hose!!!

Good luck, lesson learned,
Bryan
