Initially I like the way my Triton charger worked ...until I tried charging a Li-Po 2-cell 1200mah 7.4 volt pack. As other people have reported the Triton WILL NOT go up to the my set charge current (1.2 Amps).
I even set the capacity to 2400 mah in the program to try and trick it like Hobby Services suggested to do! The Triton slowly ramps up to 0.7A and no higher before it again ramps down. Because of this flaw the charger takes much longer to charge the Li-Po battery (2 - 3 hours)!

Great Planes needs to UPDATE the firmware of this charger to have a more aggressive charge curve!!!

Another complaint is the Triton will only let me discharge the Li-Po 2-cell pack to 6.0v. The manufacturer says do not let it go below 5.0V.
It would be nice to be able to set if to the full discharge voltage of 5.0V (2.5 V per Cell)!

My Triton is going back for Hobby Services for Repair and Re-Calibration and hopefully a new Firmware update that works!

That's just how the Triton works... remember Lipos are alot different than nicad and nimh batteries.

Triton charger problems...

According to Hobby Services that's NOT how it is supposed to work!

Why let me be able to set a charge current if the charger will not provide it??? They tell me it should charge my 1200mah Li-Po at 1.2A ....the 1C rate.

Lipo's charge different... unlike a nicad they won't start and continue at the amp you set. They start off slow, .1 amp, and then go as high as it needs too to fully charge it... and if it takes 1C then that's as high as it goes, or what you set. At least that's how I'm understanding it.

Shortening the charge leads...

Mine are pretty short as it is. I am also using heavier gauge wire with Dean's Ultra Connectors. I doubt that is the problem.

Come on Great Planes make the Triton a real super charger!!!

Triton software update

I agree. The Triton needs a software update for the reason you mentioned, and for other issues also. If they would allow LiPo's to be charged at up to 5 amps, and allow us to charge up to 6 LiPo cells in series, they might corner the market on chargers. I see no reason, other than short sightedness on the original programmers part, that would not allow this to be done. After all, it will charge up to 24 NiCd cells which is around 28 volts. Divide the fully charged LiPo cell voltage of 4.2 volts into 28 and you get over 6 cells. They allow other packs to be charged at 5 amps, but limit LiPo to 2.5. IMHO, this is just not good enough. I have messaged Great Planes about my feelings. It might help if others would do the same. The only email I could find for them was at their aircraft feedback page. If you feel so inclined, give it a try.
