I'm trying to set up my pitch as per the instructions in Ray's manual.

That is, 3/4 stick hover, 0 deg pitch at half stick.

Anyway, gone through the instructions and at neutral, all cranks have good 90 deg and the mixer arms are level.

I've mechnically adjusted the links to give 0 degs pitch at half stick.

I check my pitch throws and I've got a good -8 degs to +10 degs.

Just for completness, I check the other blade.

It shows 0 degs at half stick (great) but moves through -10 to +12.

Everything is level as far as I can tell and paired links are all the same length. I can't figure what is going on?

I have noticed that some poster say they check the other blade by swinging the rotor round (so both checks are made on the same side of the heli) - I'm not doing this, but can't see why this would matter.

Also, having followed Ray's instructions, I've got close to the setup he describes (apart from above problem) but the resultatnt link lengths differ significantly from the suggestion in the heli manual (Hawk Sport) - is this to be expected?

Cheers,

Nigel

So what pitch values do you get when you measure it on one side (so turning the blade, and yes this is the proper procedure).
If you get identical values I would say that the swashplate is not level.
Maybe you have messed up your radio settings in giving one of the servo's more throw. Are they identical ?

You posted this in the beginners corner, are you sure you want to fly with -8 to -10 ?

I've just just tried rotating the head through 180 and measuring on the same side and I get exactly the same results (i.e. the pitch ranges are different.

I've just double checked the the paired rods and they are all matched.

I won't fly with -8 to +10. At this point I've just set the pitch up to give maximum throws (without binding) with 0 degs at the centre.

When I have sorted out this blade difference I will then setup my Normal Pitch Curve to give something like 0, 0, 0, +5, +9 (May put -1 at bottom).

Cheers,

Nigel

Doh!!!

Found it. One bell mixer had short link to short ball. The other has short link to long ball.

How stupid!!!

When you make your adjustments for your pitch curve make sure you have about -2 or -3 in the low end. Here is a little clip that tought me to fly in a rather abrupt manner.

Well flew the Sim for a month and then went and bought my raptor. Put it together and then my "Help" never showed up to help me set it up. well I got pissed and did it myself. I put 0 neg pitch and went to fire it up and did some low hovering and all was well, got a little ballsy and decided hey this isn't that hard and tried a piroette like I can do on the Sim and that little bastard got away from me so I got altitude figuring at least I'll delay the crash. Regained my composure and it's now at about 50 ft. Pretty windy once I got above the trees so the thing wouldn't come down without bleeding off too much rotor speed (only reason that didn't screw me is I knew from my experience in the back of Hueys). I hovered it for about five minutes and then the wind died and landed uneventfully. Boy you should have heard my wife!!! First flight and I can't get it down. Well that was my breakthrough in hovering, learn it or pay the piper trying.

In God we trust, everyone else we monitor.
