I just bought a Hawk Sport yesterday and noticed that the gears seem to be binding just a little at one spot. I assume this is not supposed to be this way. Is this typical, or a defect?

Thanks!

Which gears??? It is really difficult to get binding with the Hawk Soprt unless something is installed incorrectly. More info or post a pic and I'm sure you'll get the help you need.

It seems to be binding at the main gear, but I am not sure if it is the tail rotor drive or the gear below and inside the main. It is like there is a high spot or something. This is straight out of the box. A preassembled portion.

Binding

I've built 4 Hawks (III's and Sports) and I don't think I've found one that doesn't have a little binding on the main gear. The main gears seem to get a little warped so it seems that there is a high spot. Not to worry though, it doesn't affect the performance of the heli. I think what you are hearing is when the tail drive shaft hits the high spot.

Should not be a problem. This slight binding should go away within a few flights and smooth out.

binding gears

usually a new machine makes all kind of noises until they've been run in. if it keeps up after a few tankfuls, then give it closer attention, other than that, no worries.

drive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft
