John, put any collar( I use the MA/Bergen split ones) on top of the lower bearing. I used the inner race of a used mainshaft bearing as a spacer, on top of the bearing. This is because the bearing sits in a recess. The collar then sits on top of the spacer. The Quick collars tend to break in the setscrew holes. I had on fail in flight. This motivated me to re-design.

I need to look

Al....I like that idea...I have to look at my machine to see how that will work out...but it sounds great.

Is there a down side to this? Anyone?

Rich, the only downside I could see is: If you look at the frames where the mainshaft bearing sits, the "housing" for the bearing has a thin lip and a thick lip. When the collar is installed as stock, the thrust loads are placed on the thick lip of the upper bearing "housing", when inverted. When using my mod, the thrust loads are placed on the thin lip of the lower bearing "housing". Main bearings need to be greased with "The Greaser" and maintained so as not to run dry and spin in the housing. I've got many gallons through, in almost three seasons, on two sets of frames in my Rap30. Both my Rap 30 and 50 use this mod.
