Used? They are usually around $100+ new. I'm getting ready to trick out an older Pelican 1520 I have here myself that I purchased a few years back.

There's a pile of 1520's on ebay right now. If you want a yellow one, they are running $50.

All the yellow 1520s I see are listed for $50 are listed as used. They don't look to be in very good shape, either.

Yes, they are used. They look okay for what most of us are using them for. Once you get your charger/powersupply in them, you are going to beat them around a little, just sliding around in the back of the truck. A brand new one at 3 times the cost will look exactly the same after a season or less of flying.

Just to keep this thread alive and to thanks everyone who gave me all good ideas for field charging case, here is mine with stuff that i had in my shop. Power supply is meanwell 1000W pushing at 41.7 Amp at 24 VDC with Hyperion Dual output charger. It's crazy to see charging 2 packs of 6s 5000mA lipo at 20 amps at the same time

I let the suitcase close when i charge and to reduce noise.

Very nice set up, but you may have to double up on your Meanwell...and then your Honda...

Kept mine pretty simple. Here are a few more pictures. Also a picture of the small charger I use. I have 2 pairs of 2cells for power. Around 15 volts. This set up works nice to set it next to my plane or heli and charge the small rx pack.

Have you tied three power supplies together in series? What is your output capabilities?

There are 2 sets of power supplies. Each set in series. 24volt @47 amps for each charger.

Each charger can charge up to 30 amps.

Pretty simple set up but works great.

I don't think a Honda 2000 can keep up with 30 amps per charger, can it? Actually, I don't even know if my 15A breakers and wiring in my home can sustain those loads. How do you keep the power supplies fed?

I can charge at 30 amps with one charger plus a smaller load on the second. OR I charge with 30 amps for a few minutes on the first charger and as it ramps down I initiate the second charger at full power. I cannot run both at 30 amps wide open for long durations.

Enjoy things that money can buy IF you don't lose the things money can't buy.

Not sure about the Honda 2000.

I can charge with both chargers at 30 amps on a 20 amp breaker. Have not tryed it on a 15 amp.

There is a formula to help figure out how much you need going into your PS to be able to get the most out of your chargers. I did all the math first then started looking at chargers/power supplys. My goal was to have 2 chargers that would each charge at 30amps without tripping a 20 amp breaker. So far so good...

You should be able to use 2 3010B's @ 30A at the same time from a 15A household plug. 15A X 120V = 1800W, at least I've done it.

2 3010B's is 60A X 25.2V = 1512W, even with charger and PS losses it should work. With the Honda 2000i I could only ever get about 28A out of each charger, anymore and it kicked out.

Pretty yellow case! If that is all your worried about then you don't need the case for it's actaul function. The Jone's are chasing the nieghbors if you are looking at that case for looks. I bought a $15 250 size case for my charger and am extremly happy with it. A pelican case means once in a while it will slide around in the back of a truck and won't be damaged. Myself, I don't drive that hard to the field.
Now on the other hand a person taking a well secured charging system on flights will appreciate the pelican case and not worry about scraches to the case as long as there Charging system works.

I have a feeling that Pelican cases came from seeing what the pros use. Not realizing they needed durable cases to endure baggage handlers.

I drive to the field and home. I have absolutly no reason to use a pelican case unless I wanted to look cool at the field.

Unless you fly, Drive crazy to the field or take a bus to the field you don't need one.

A shiny new pelican case will only impress plankers.

Friends don't encourage friends to fly helis! It can cause part shortages.
