Does anyone out there use a R50 to video tape?

I would like to take my old Panasonic VHS-C camcorder and make a light frame to mount to my stock R50. I'm not going to make anything fancy just a fixed, slightly tilted mount.

The camcorder weighs close to 2lbs with battery and tape, plus another pound for the fixture.

I just want to make sure that I do not smoke the clutch or cause other problems with the heli.

Only one way to find out. (START LIFTING)

I know a cRaptor 30 would lift 3 lbs easy. Until I blew a connecting rod.

I thought I might have overheated the tt 39 but I think the engine just could not handle the torque. It stretched the rod. Anyway when you start to lift with a Nitro engine start lifting with a rich fuel mixture. as the weight goes up the engine will lean out. I would guess that a 50 would lift 8 lbs easy. Gassers will lift 18 to 20 lbs.

FSFirst,

My suggestion would be to try it first. Make a load out of a piece of wood (scrap piece of 2X4 will work) and weight with lead as necessary, and test fly it. Keep in mind when you are flying with a heavy load, what it will lift and what it will stop a decent with may be two different things. Always plan your decents to landing into the wind and keep your decent rate to a minimum. Hope this helps.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

Just came in from outside from testing.
I richened the OS 50 ½ turn from where it usually runs.
I have the TT Carbon Blades and 20% fuel and got it to lift 10 lbs.
You would be safe at hauling 7 lbs easy pulled it around no problem.

Just thought you would like to know.

Thanks all! I'm currently planning my design to hold the camcorder in place. I'll post pics when finished.
