so from thread "what started it all"

I ask has lipo really progressed? The new KDE motor only pulls for 3:30, alan has this thing working 4:10, I know we have gone up in c rating and charging also the addition of HV being common palce, but have we really gained in FT, and when I say this I mean 3D FT? This was 5 years ago...

Actually, it was less than 3min from the time he was at full spool up till throttle hold was hit.

I see the electrics getting worse for flight time IMO.
Yes more power in the first minute or two. Good for drag racing, crap for long 3D flights, cruising around, and learning.

Cheers,
Raven

As rotorg mentioned that was a poor video IMO as well. My xera and scorpions which I beleive are easily a powerful in a 700e pull anOther minute and a half. That's with 4400mah packs to. I wouldn't be confident in selling that motor based on that video and have to agree with the N guys comments on that vid. Poor flight time and powe draws.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

the video with Alan
at start up the heli sounds like the battery is already dead when compared to the newer vids

you may have noticed the higher the C rating the heavier the battery
a 20C weighs less than a 30C
yeah we get a higher discharge to carry that extra weight kinda defeats the purpose
no wonder hard 3d flights are so short

It's all about batteries. They increase the power output but they don't increase the available power. When they can double the mAh without doubling the pack weight,,,then they might have something.

Batteries really need better durability also. They are very fragile and even if you maintain(baby) them to best of your ability,,they just go downhill far too quickly.

Batteries do not decrease in weight as they discharge,,,,,a fuel tank does!!

yep that's what makes most peeps switch to electric

nitro takes a lil more patience to build it right and tune it in
but then it's back to back flying with longer flight times

Bob, Yup he will definately be poor after paying you.

...and he will definately lose after that impractical monstrosity starts demonstrating its many failure modes.

I guess that will make him a poor loser.

wow...

I guess your name say it all, you just don't stir...you create waves

actually quite the contrary, Damien has more than a case through it now, with no signs of any problems what so ever. Very reliable, I flew it this weekend back to back. Sunday I put it up 6 time to my 700's 2 times and my electrics 4 times.

I figure at this point it will be about regular maintainence.

on another note...

I am having problems with my flight batteries, 4 of them are starting to puff, 2 more are showing signs that they will follow, boo.

I have a call into the MFG, as they are only 2 months old, 18 cycles, and yes they have been properly cared for.

I hope they do something for me, otherwise those will be the most expensive 18 flights I have ever had

They are pulse packs. Bummer as I bought 4 packs based on how good they were doing for helixangle.

You know, Wave, I know you're going to believe what you want to believe but I have been posting here for 8 months or so and I do not bring up any "business". Only when you guys have brought it up have I gotten folks from here contact me and go..."dude, what ya got?". Many who have been posting for all of those 8 months had no idea until you guys brought it up. And, all I did in every instance was to avoid that subject. It is against Marks rules and I don't need to sell anyway...I'm at full capacity and then some.....it's just a little garage shop. Now, I know what you're trying to do. You and some others. You're trying to get me in trouble with Mark in order to shut me up about the pros of Nitro. If you are eventually successful, so be it. But, don't you think that is a little unfair to those who ARE interested?
The only thing I'm selling here is the spirit of this hobby...at least in part, as I see it...for those interested. Damien provides all the power that can be put into 620mm blades (even a pro stated he could not bog it) AND longer flight time AND smoke AND roar. Why do you want to squelsh that information? You don't like me? Some other motif? I don't know....it's strange.

Heck, if I were interested in making money from this Nitro machine we have built, I certainly wouldn't be going on about it. I would be going to some Asian contract manufacturers to get parts made for $28 a set so I could sell them for $280 a set. I'm involved in such things in my day job (non heli related) so I know how to do that. Rather, I would love to see Align or anyone else commercialize high power Nitros. They would be better at such a thing than I and I think that would be good for the hobby.

As far as Damien, even though Helix is exceptionally hard on a heli, we built it well, Helix is good with maintenance and I am confident he will have a reliable machine for years to come. It is not off the shelf and I cannot provide that. I wish I could. I'm only providing the knowledge that it can be done. That's what hobbies are all about for me and many others I've met.

could the 120 swing things in favor of nitro?
Those things are so not in demand that they have to give them away?
