Stop with the incinuations wave. Look at your own posts. In about the last 50 or so, as far back as I cared to go, better than 90% are bashing someone. If it isn't me, it's Futaba, Castle, this distributor, that one, a dead singers Mother and in one you even admit your own selfishness. I'll not feel insulted by you once I looked. I was at first....now it's OK.
Calm down now friend.

Take a deep breath ......ahhhhhh.

Thats better.

Now...the facts are the facts sir. You cling to this thread like a child clings to a comforting blanket.

...like a heroin addict yearning for a fix.

...an alcoholic his next drink.

...or a business man his next dollar.

This might very well be my last post in this thread as the thread has degraded into nothing but personal attacks and insults, but I'd like to give my thoughts on the pertinent subject. Many years ago, when I flew airplanes, I would enjoy putting a K&B .40 on a .20 sized Joystick or the like. And even though it was usually a bit nose heavy, the power was killer...a whole lot of fun! I know for a fact when you nearly double the engine size on anything R/C you will have ballistic power. I have no doubt that a 600/90 heli could have as much power or maybe even more than a high powered 600E, but I'm not even sure why it matters any more. If the N guys want to have this kind of fun(and believe me, if I were still into the N's I would!) I see no point in bickering with them...I mean it has become pointless because it has degraded so far! Here's my final analysis, I do believe it is possible to have ballistic power with a 600/90, power which equals or exceeds high power 600E's, and still get more flight time, at least where batt tech is now. I first realized this when going the other way, ie slowing the HS down excessively to gain FT with E's. Even though they have more overall force and torque, the slow HS decreases performance to the point of no fun, at least for me. I used to get 8 mins if I finished off the tank with my TR700N running 2050 HS. If I try to get 8 mins out of my 700E I have to decrease HS to maybe 1500 or whatever, and even though the torque and force are there still, the low HS causes a loss in pop and agility, which is fine for experimenting, but not for general flying fun. Now, realize I am comparing apples for apples, and I understand there are other designs that would give better performance at 1800-1900 HS than the TR700E, but those designs will not support glow engines, so not really comparable straight across. So, at this juncture, even with the massive advantage of efficiency that the E's have, and the extremely low efficiency of chemically burning glow fuel in an ic engine, there is more energy available in a tank of liquid fuel than can be stored in even a very good lipo batt. And I suspect it will be a long time before that much energy can be stored in a batt the size and weight we need to be comparable to liquid fuel. But so what, with the massive advantage in eff., it doesn't need to be. We don't need dozens of times more energy density...only 50% more(which would give me 7.5-8 mins of FT) than current batts in the same weight would do nicely. Anyway, in conclusion, what Bob and company are doing is having a lot of fun...and I personally think there is no good reason to banter all this negativism back and forth. It simply is not conducive to a great hobby that is capable of so much fun!

@ band,
Well said

fwiw...I dig both n&e

I took this last year off from the hobby...totally got rid of all my heli stuff

when I decided to get back into it my heli of choice was almost the fusion 50e, but pulled the trigger on the velocity 50n

Just getting back in the game, I want to fly as much as possible...charge, fly-fly-fly-fly

I totally see an e50 in my future though

OICU812 has been PMing me asking for details of the safety of Damien. I don't feel this belongs in PM...better for all to see. Safety is indeed a very important aspect of this hobby and we should all be concerned with it. All aspects...all areas. Not just the machines but the way we fly them, where we fly them and so on.
Regarding Damien, I stated before, here we go again, I won't give details of the construction of Damien. I am confident in its airworthiness. And the basis of this starts with engineering and continues with testing. Damien is not the only one built BTW...he has a brother. And testing starts before anything goes in the air.
Not the first time a 90 been put in a 600 either so that concept isn't mine BTW. Nor is high power (electrics peak higher). Regardless, Damien was built to be more reliable than most others.

That's the best answer I will give and I really hope the request was sincere rather than having some other motif. Safety is too important an issue.

From first hand observation I can support the fact that Bob has taken every measure in design to strengthen all areas of concern. Actually if he keeps going he will have a 600 class TDR Nitro.

As far as John goes he the first pilot to call for a landing if he thinks there is the slightest thing wrong with a heli. He is not one to take any chances.

Concerning our hobby in general, safety can never be over done. Hell we have carbon fiber knives spinning at 2000+ rpm.Tthere is nothing safe about it. I will not mention names but there are several pro's that fly low and close. The spectators love it but I hope their maintenance inspections are spot on it only takes one failure to turn that type of flying into a big mess.

Yea,,those KDE Direct motors look impressive. And they are very proud of them,,have you seen the sticker price of them?

I've thought about that a lot,,,those pros actually put their lives on the line to put on these shows,,,along with their spotters and camera guys. Everyone within 500 yards also,,LOL. One servo wire gets chaffed and it could get real ugly.

Folks see this all the time and become complacent,,,then they go out and maiden test fly a 700-class heli in a schoolyard with children playing outside,,geeez!

You could tell in that KDE video that the last 30 seconds of the flight the heli faultered to that of a nitro .90.

Batteries,,,some day,,,,but not yet!! A 3-minute demo is cool,,,but I'd like more time to practice and learn!

ED! What are you doing? You're an all e guy remember.
Oh yeah...having fun.

I'll let all you guys in on a little secret. I figured this thing would be a joke when I started it. At one point I actually planned to make a video of it lumbering to get off the ground. I have to say all the motivation actually kept me going. Isn't that funny?
Way more time into it than I had planned on though. Worth every minute but I'm about fried by now.

Best time I've had in the hobby in years.
