I tried to alter a 6S 3000mah pack and didn't balance charge. One of the cells probably got higher than the others and started the lipo to combust. Notice all the other lipos sitting on the stand with this one. The 1/2 gallon of nitro sitting off behind the stand. If lipos were as dangerous and explosive as some claim they are then one would have expected the spent lipo to cause a chain reaction to the others, plop down onto the gallon of nitro and me filing an insurance claim on my house. I was able to rewrap all other lipos on that table and they worked fine.

Now we can do all the "what ifs" we want, but bottom line. It didn't.

I don't claim any of that. I do claim they can start a fire.
Obviously it looks pretty charred on your table.
That would suck getting all pumped up to go fly only to see everything is up in smoke.
I'm sincerely glad that you didn't need to file a homeowners insurance claim.
That's one reason I charge in my shop. Everything is concrete besides the roof system and its detached from my home.
Still never had any problems in 5 years of charging li-po batts.

One of the many good things about a gallon of nitro is it doesn't need to be charged for power unless its on a credit card. lol

Nah . . . to charge menas to put energy in, a glow plug just releases the energy already there.

Siang did you read your stories you linked? Kid charges batt "in model" while he sleeps doesn't know what he's doing. No info on batts, charger, precautions if any. Another scare you story with zero information why. The sky is falling again kind of post... I have yet to see one factual story or post of Lipos self igniting or causing serious harm without a bonehead in charge.

Simple conclusion and a broken record here..

Buy decent chargers and packs use common sense and nothing bad happens period.

I have also tried to get a lipo to explode, the best I could get was a smokey hiss. Lipos arent that hard to take care of if you read up on them a little bit and use proper handling/charging. Another + to OICU812.

A waffle iron can start a fire too. And I don't even want to think about a nitro powered one.

Anybody know if a Lipo could power a waffle iron?
