I have received my hummingbird and got it working. I am now looking for advise on the best battery pack to use and also the best charger.

The one that comes with it has no timer which is a problem for me and the batterys are not said to be the best.

Are there any ready made Lithium Polymer packs available for the hummingbird or will i have to build one.

If i have to build one would a collection of these be good enough or am i off the mark

http://www.onlycells.com/products.htm

I have a good enough budget for the charger so i want a good one that is hopefully fast and has a timer. I dont know if you can get them but i was hoping you could charge more than one battery at a time

As you can see i am just not sure what is best and need some advise from those who have experiance

As far as battery packs, the Etec 2 cell 1200's are really good. Thunder Power also came out with 1320's that's a few millimeters longer, never tried them yet but about to order one, those must be awesome as everything I've used and ever heard of theirs are just of great quality. thunder power also has 2100's which will give you close to an hour of run time but the pack is 4 inches long...

As far as a charger, if you want a very nice charger that can charge nicads, nimh, lipo, li ion or lead batteries and have a nice display with all the info you need and memory for all your different packs and don't want to break the bank, get a Triton. I own one you'll never need another charger, it's great and only around $125 bucks.

recommended charge rate for those lipos is 1C, the Etec takes roughly about an hour to charge at 1.2amps , The Thunder Power slightly longer but get longer run time too. That's really good as a 600nimh pack takes about a half hour to charge anyway a .6amp

Once you go lipo, you'll be spoiled, you get better power and longer run times. You should get about 20 minutes with the Etec and a little longer with the Thunder Power.

Oh yea, as far as building lipo packs, unless you're really experienced with soldering and familiar with lipo batteries, it's better to have them professionaly built as they have to match up really close and shorting them could result in battery catching fire. Lipo is a tricky chemistry to work with from what I hear...

Hi, the third one from the top. The 1320 2 cell pack. The Etec 1200's are slightly shorter but only by about 1/4 inch...

There's a few ways people mount them, here's a pic of mine to give you an idea of one of the ways... Mounted is an Etec pack but there's more than enough room to spare to fit the TP 1320's. There's also one strip of velcro on the bottom of the pack just so it's more secure and I can readjust for cg very easily...

Get a Triton and a couple of E-Tec LI-Poly 1200's, and you will be happier than a Pig in SH#%.. This is what I have and I am very happy with it.

LI POLY Chargers

If youd like my opionon the TRITON sucks. my friend has one and had to buy a converter to use it in the house and it only charges one batt at a time. NOW the SUPER BRAIN 969 is A/C D/C charges 2 batt at a time and is only $99.99 and the triton is $125

Try batteriesamerica.com...I bought a 1650mAh Li-Poly battery and a charger for $60. The battery is awesome. It flies my HB for over 30 minutes easily. The charger will just plug directly into the cigarette lighter and will charge the battery in about an hour and a half to two hours.

If the truth is out there; Why are we in here?

mtj4300 and others,
I suggest you refer to the following link before considering the Superbrain 969. It is NOT advisable to use this charger for charging LiPo's. I sent an e-mail to the company regarging my concerns and never did receive a reply.

Yes. The SuperBrain IS NOT A LIPO CHARGER AND SHOULD NEVER BE USED AS SUCH.

I have 6 Li-poly battery packs, three 2 cell 1020 Kokam packs and three E-tech 1200 2 cell packs. All I have ever used to charge them is the inexpensive $7cell phone charger. http://www.b-p-p.com/C750.htm
Works great, never had a problem with charging my cells. Always tops them right up, and I can leave the packs connected for days/weeks at a time if I want with out any worries. After all, isn't that what people do that with their cell phones all the time.
For the price of one Triton charger, you could get 6 E-tech 1200 cells (enough for three 2 cell packs) and three cell phone chargers. Get a 3 way cigarette lighter splitter from Radio shack and you can charge all 3 li-poly packs at the same time.
Sure they take a little bit longer to charge your packs with these chargers and they don't have any fancy displays or bells and whistles, but if you just want to charge up your Li-poly packs so you can fly these work great.
At that price how can you go wrong?

PS. a slower charge means a gentler charge,,, easier on the cells, they should last longer.

Randall,
You make some very good points. I am using the same charger as you are and it does work perfectly. As you know, the only problem with it is that it is only a 2 cell charger. I plan to get the SC2 from BPP when it is released late this year.

helibill,
That piece of plastic is the cover for the frame from another HB I decided to use for parts. The shiny stuff on the top is a very sticky material called Dycem. It helps to prevent the battery from sliding.
