I am confused here and need help, I have the Super Nova 250
and recently bought 2 -1650mah Nimh flat packs from Servo CIty, I
was flyin today fully charged and I checked it with a volt meter
that puts 250mh load and it read 5.20, I flew just 2 or 3 flights
and checked it it said 4.7-recharge. Ok I got home and plugged
in the Super Nova and charged at the rate of .8 It only chrged for a couple of minutes and only took 74 mah,, I rechecked it and it said 4.90
I plugged the SuperNova back in and lowered the charge rate to
.5 and it went for 20 or so minutes and got up to 5.18. I don't understand whats happening, Is this proper behavior for Nimh?
Maybe I need to go back to nicads. I don't feel very comfortable
with the Nimh Knowing this. I was under the impression they lasted alot longer. Any Ideas??

Your pack seems to be "false peaking." Did you perform a C/10 slow charge when the pack was brand new?

An initial C/10 will ensure that the pack's cells are balanced. Just charge at 150mA to 175mA for 20-24 hours. All new packs should see this treatment before the fast charger is used.

Once you get a full charge into the pack you will be able to see its real performance. It should take 1800mAH (or more) to recharge that pack when it is exhausted. A 74mAH charge is not close by a long shot.

BTW, it will take three or four cycles before the NiMH's full capacity is realized. But that is not the source of the problem in this case. Get a full charge into the pack and you will be good to go.
