Hello all !

After a slight..aherm mishap(Crash) I found i had to replace my tail motor , removed old motor and fitted new on with no problem, however the old unit had a capacitor (I think its a capcitor on it, it was yell with the value 104 uf on it.)but the old capacitor got knackered during removal , and the new one refuses to go with out it.
is this normal?

electric motor create electric spike. Those current spike if not block will cause glithc or go and burn your speed controller and receiver in the worst case. Buy a sodering iron and install the capacitor on the new motor and check the polarity of the capacitor when installing them on the new motor.

Brian,
You have to be extremely careful when soldering the new motor on. The brushes are held in plastic, and you can easily apply too much heat and ruin it. The motor should run without the capacitor. If it doesn't, either you have the wiring wrong, or you have melted the brush holder, or else maybe your controller is bad. It is possible for a crash, or a dying motor to kill the controller. If you get the motor going, you should be able to get a capacitor at an electronics shop. Anything from 0.01uF to 0.1uF at 50v would work to stop interference.

Superhero,
Some capacitors are polarized, but the ones used on these, and most other RC motors are not.
